Wiener Dog Sticks Head Where It Doesn’t Belong, Regrets It Immediately

As pet owners, we know that our dogs can sometimes find themselves in sticky situations that leave us scratching our heads and wondering how in the world it happened. They can be very curious and often will stick their noses where they don’t belong…quite literally in the case of this cute brown Dachshund named Teddy. But don’t worry! With the help from some friends, Teddy’s story has a happy ending. (See video below)

Teddy Finds Himself in a Predicament

The Los Angeles County Fire Department shared a video on Facebook on Friday, January 19 of firefighters helping a wiener dog stuck in a very unlikely spot. They mentioned in the video’s caption that this friendly crew of firefighters “are well known for rescuing family pets” in the neighborhoods they serve in L.A. That makes them the guys to call if your family pet needs help!

Teddy was in his family’s garage when he decided that it would be a good idea to put his head in between the spokes on the wheel of the golf cart. Realizing quickly that he was stuck, he barked for help, and when his family found him, they called for help. Fire Station 144 was summoned to their home, and the family was certain the rescuers would be able to get Teddy un-stuck. Knowing that it was going to be tricky and take some time, the firefighters quickly got into action and got to work to free Teddy.

It’s always scary to get yourself in a situation that you can’t get out of, but I imagine having your head stuck would be even more terrifying! The firefighters knew that they had to comfort Teddy and try to keep him calm throughout the process. Working quickly but safely, the crew had to figure out the easiest way to get Teddy’s head out without causing any further injuries to him.

Throughout the video, which appears to have been shot from a phone camera, I noticed that somebody had their hands on Teddy’s back and stomach the entire time so that he would know he was safe and not alone. The rescuers try to shake and wiggle his head around to see if maybe they could easily pull him out. When that doesn’t work, they carefully use a saw to cut part of the tire away. Teddy remained calm and patient through the entire process. It’s pretty impressive!

After more careful pulling and prying, the rescuers were finally able to free Teddy! One of the firefighters quickly assesses Teddy for injuries, but luckily, there didn’t seem to be any significant ones that needed immediate treatment. The best part of the video is when Teddy looks up at his rescuer as if to say thank you…you can see the love and appreciation in his little brown eyes! L.A. County Firefighters did provide a brief update on how Teddy’s doing in their caption, “Thankfully Teddy is OK.”

I sure hope that Teddy doesn’t try that stunt again! Lucky for him he had a whole group of supporters there to help assure him that he was safe. Good job to all the FS 144 crew! This heartwarming tale goes to show that the same level of heroism and compassion these firefighters use daily with the people they serve is also extended to our four-legged friends.
