Animal Advocate’s Brilliant Ice Cream Truck Idea Has Shelter Dogs Drooling
Upland, CA – When Rocky Kanaka, a well-known animal advocate, learned about an abandoned puppy who was hit by a car and faced losing his leg, he knew he had to step in. But Kanaka didn’t stop at just covering the pup’s $3,000 surgery bill. He went far above and beyond to celebrate the dog’s amazing recovery in epic fashion. (watch video above)
“Look at that cute face. When I heard about this, I knew I wanted to help,” Kanaka said of the injured pup, named Mondo.
A Ridiculously Extravagant Celebration
Nearly a month after donating funds for Mondo’s crucial leg surgery, Kanaka arrived at Upland’s animal shelter armed with a brilliant idea: an entire ice cream truck converted into a drool-worthy dog treat truck.
“I got ahold of an ice cream truck for dogs. We’re gonna completely convert this with peanut butter, bacon bits, sprinkles,” he explained excitedly. “The only thing that’s gonna matter is will the dogs love it? And more importantly, will Mondo love it?”
As volunteers brought out the recovering pup on all four legs, Kanaka could barely contain his glee at the success of the surgery he made possible. Mondo looked healthy, happy and ready to celebrate his second chance.
Mondo Gets His Just “Desserts”
One by one, the lucky shelter dogs stepped up to order their customized “pup cup” creations from the novelty truck. Mondo received a heaping serving of peanut butter and hot dogs, exactly as his rescuer requested.
“Mondo, it’s good to see you on all four of your legs!” Kanaka beamed as the pup delightedly licked his treats.
For longtime shelter resident Lucky, who had been homeless alongside his human before arriving at the shelter, Kanaka went the extra mile. He served Lucky’s ice cream sundae in an edible waffle cone so the sweet survivor could enjoy every last bite.
A Shelter Dog’s Dream Come True
It was an incredibly wholesome, joy-filled scene – a line of endlessly appreciative rescue pups happily lap up cold, creamy delights piled high with all their favorite toppings. A simple idea that clearly meant everything to the often-overlooked shelter animals.
For the lucky dogs of Upland, it was truly an “ice cream” dream come true.
