Watch The Heartwarming Moment A Terrified Malamute Is Comforted by His Sister In Shelter Kennel

The current real estate market isn’t just challenging for humans; it’s also tough for dogs. When their owners fall on hard times and can no longer afford housing, these innocent animals suffer the unfortunate consequences—often ending up in a cage alone, not knowing how they got there.
These two older malamutes are the latest victims of this sad trend. If their owners cannot reclaim them, these animals will seek a welcoming home. Hopefully, together.
When Rocky joins sweet Misty in her kennel, we can see the fear in her eyes. To make her comfortable, he brings a blanket to sit on instead of invading the only personal space she can claim as her own. It works because she soon lies down, looking a bit more relaxed.
Building the Bonds of Trust
This beautiful malamute is undoubtedly looking for reassurance that everything will be okay when she quickly takes Rocky’s treat. He describes trying to hold his excitement because he realizes this is a beautiful sign. “I know if I can get her to take a treat right out of the gate, we can get her to experience some comfort.” He looks away to keep her calm while handing her another piece. Again, she gently scoops it up. This good girl can also communicate her needs. When Rocky offers her a piece in a flat hand, she uses her nose to tell him that’s not what she wants. He picks up on her sign and hands it again between his fingertips, which she asks for. Thankfully, within minutes, this girl becomes at ease with being petted and appears calmer. Eventually, she even took the treats from his palm.
The Difficulties of Shelter Life for Senior Dogs
Dogs in shelters face challenges, especially senior ones. Misty doesn’t know what happened to her humans or how to go home. Her terrifying experience was only amplified when the dog in the kennel behind her bumped up against the thin wall between them. Startled, she quickly jumps away with her tail between her legs. Rocky can observe that heavy matting is present on her backside when she does. She also has open wounds on her front paws, most likely caused by nervous licking or possibly allergies. In the kennel, next to Misty, is her fluffy all-white brother Ash. This handsome boy also appears very stressed by their new surroundings.
Why Are These Seniors in a Shelter?
It’s revealed that although their owner is known, they ended up here because authorities confiscated them during an eviction. How heartbreaking. Rocky describes, “You could see how easily someone could fall on hard times. Especially right now with how expensive things are getting.” Unfortunately, because their humans didn’t have anywhere to go, neither did their dogs.
Will These Dogs Be Available For Adoption?
It’s unknown at this time if they will return to their parents. Rocky reveals that the shelter, located in Southern CA, will hold the dogs for ten days, and they are very good at doing everything they can to help these individuals reunite with their pets. If they cannot provide them with a home, he reports, “The good news is, we can help them find a family.” One where they will be happy and loved. Seeking Help to Get Them Home
Rocky requests for dog food maker Sundays to feed them for the rest of the year, and thankfully, they agree! What an incredible gift! He feels this might bring financial relief to their parents and make it easier to take them home. If it’s not enough for them to return to their original family, he’ll extend this offer to their new family to offset costs. He feels this high-quality food, which is air-dried and made with human-grade ingredients, may help to improve and extend these senior dogs’ lives. Besides helping provide these dogs with nutritious meals, Rocky also wants to ensure that if they return to their original owners, they are provided with the grooming care they desperately need, as their condition is causing them great discomfort.
The Heartwarming Reunion of a Brother and Sister
Misty goes straight to her brother’s side when the wall between their cages is lifted. She also feels comfortable enough with Rocky to return for more treats. Unfortunately, Ash is too frightened to enjoy any of them but allows his sister to eat them for him. Her hearty appetite is one reason Rocky speculates the wall between them may have been up. After enjoying her snack, she returns to her brother to provide him with the comfort he so desperately needs.

It would be ideal for them to return to the family they know if they can provide for their needs. However, if they cannot, they will need a loving home willing to give them the life they deserve.
