Local Woman Who Fostered Pitbull for Valentine’s Day Ends Up with 7 Little Presents

Brie Wilson fostered a pregnant Pitbull on Valentine’s Day, knowing that the dog was going to be giving birth within the next month or so. At the shelter, the dog was shaking and wouldn’t look Brie in the eye, and Brie knew she needed help.

Over the next few months, Brie worked to build trust with the dog who she named Valentine. Valentine was only supposed to stay with her until the babies found their forever homes, but during their time together the two developed a deep bond. Brie eventually chose to adopt the sweet pup and give her the life that she deserved.

Valentine Moves to Her New Foster Home

When Brie brought Valentine home, it was clear to her that she had been traumatized. “She was very skittish and it was so heartbreaking.” She was scared and wouldn’t make eye contact with her foster mom. She kept her head bowed and was clearly afraid of people. Brie calmly and quietly started to talk to her and soothe her nerves.

Within the first few days, Valentine started to relax. “Every single day there were improvements in how much she trusted again.” She accepted the treats that Brie offered her, and even started wagging her tail. It took three weeks for the pregnant Pitbull to be comfortable enough to venture outside into the yard, and when she did, she ran around like a puppy, enjoying her new found freedom.

Valentine’s Puppies Make Their Arrival

Brie had set up a room for Valentine to have her babies in. She knew that the puppies were getting close to making their big entrance into the world, and she spent hours watching and comforting Valentine. “I would just lay there and watch them for hours. Just seeing those ripples in her belly and those babies moving around, it’s such a cool experience.”

Brie knew that, “when they start nesting, it’s go time.” She watched the expecting mom and the night after the babies arrived she happily announced that Valentine finally had her babies…six of them! Brie was surprised by how quickly Valentine blossomed as a mother. “For a first time mom, her instincts kicked in and she rocked it!”

The House was Full of Happy Chaos as the Puppies Grew and Thrived

Having a houseful of puppies is a lot of work, and it was clear from Brie’s videos that she enjoyed every minute of it. There were lots of puppy cuddles and snuggles that she lovingly referred to as the “big snuggle puddle”.

After eight weeks together, it was time for Brie and Valentine to say goodbye to them and they all headed off to their forever homes. “It’s hard to let them go because – you just want to love them forever.”

Brie Decides to Adopt Valentine

After everything that the two had been through together and the bond and love that they built over time, Brie made the decision to adopt Valentine and give her her own forever home. Because of the experience with Valentine, she also decided to start her own rescue in Valentine’s honor, giving more dogs another chance at a happy life.

Fostering a dog means saving a life, but in Brie’s case, she was able to save seven lives. She knows that without her help, these puppies may not have even ever been born. She found peace in knowing that they were going to amazing families and that “they are going to know love from the very beginning.”
