Watch Dog’s Priceless Reaction as He Leaves Shelter After Years Will Melt Your Heart

Becoming the longest resident at the animal shelter is a milestone no pet wants to reach, but it does come with its fair share of perks. Besides getting extra time in the social media spotlight, spending longer at the shelter gives a dog the chance to make friends with the other pets and the volunteers who care for them. These relationships can make days in the shelter a lot more bearable, but as rescue dog Ozzy is finally learning firsthand, there really is no place like home. (watch video below)

Dog's reaction to get adopted

Ozzy is a gorgeous brindle-coated dog who had been waiting at the Humane Society of Broward County for months with no adoption interest. His friends were stunned as to why he was kept waiting with such a friendly and outgoing demeanor, but it turned out that this Pit Bull mix just needed the right person to come along. As of May 10, Ozzy was officially adopted! The shelter staff at @humanebroward celebrated his homecoming with a heartwarming video that will have anyone smiling from ear to ear.

Shelter’s Longest Resident Gets Adopted

Congratulations Ozzy! You deserve a home where you’re the center of attention after long months of waiting, and it seems like you’ve finally found it. In fact, this happy dog’s new owner even commented on the shelter’s Instagram post that Ozzy is officially home for good! There are many people breathing a sigh of relief, though no one is more relieved than the people who helped care for him at the Florida animal shelter.

2-year-old Ozzy is friendly with adults, gentle with children, and playful with select other dogs. As you saw from this video, he already loved his new dad and was so excited to go with him. That tail was wagging the entire time the camera was rolling, and it was the perfect beginning to Happily Ever After.

Bringing Home a Rescue Dog

As perfect as this moment was for Ozzy, his new dad, and his shelter friends, it’s important to remember that shelter dogs need time to adjust in their new homes. They may keep to themselves to decompress for a few days, but it’s usually a matter of weeks before a furry friend is feeling more like themselves. Ozzy is likely adjusting to life with new people in a new environment, but his excitement and love will make any difficult moments well worth the effort. Happy tails, Ozzy!
