This Little Dog Survived a Hit-and-Run, Then Waited for a Family That Never Came
Tito arrived at a Southern California animal shelter, after being struck by a car that left him with multiple injuries requiring surgery. Tito’s operation was a success and after weeks of recovery, this resilient pup has regained his strength and vibrant personality. Now he’s waiting for the ultimate reward – a loving forever family to call his own and shower him with the affection he truly deserves.
Tito’s Tenacity and Strength Pays Off
When Tito arrived at the Los Angeles shelter In December 2023 staff were initially optimistic about reuniting the injured pup with his family thanks to his microchip details. Sadly, Tito’s owners never came forward to claim him, abandoning him when he needed them the most.
Fortunately, the shelter was able to get Tito into surgery within days, and he spent the next two months recovering at a foster home. The rehabilitation process was slow-going at first, with Tito only able to go outside briefly for bathroom breaks lasting around 5 minutes. To allow him to enjoy the outdoors without overtaxing his healing legs, his dedicated foster mom took him for long walks around the neighborhood in a borrowed dog stroller.
Week by week, Tito diligently worked on putting more weight on his injured leg. Finally, after 6 weeks, the veterinary team delivered wonderful news – Tito’s leg had “healed perfectly”! Just 2 more weeks of rest, and the resilient pup could resume normal play just like he did before the accident.
Fully Recovered Tito Is Ready for a Home to Call His Own
Tito is a friendly 4-year-old, 20-pound Dachshund mix who thrives on human and animal companionship alike. With a playful spirit and boundless energy, he loves joining the dog pack at his foster home for romps but also gets along with the resident cats and bunnies.
Having been part of a loving family prior to the accident, Tito is already well-versed in walking on a leash, knows basic commands, and is fully house-trained. He enjoys engaging his mind with interactive toys and chew toys (the KONG is his favorite). Now fully recovered, his favorite activities are active ones like hiking and playing fetch in the yard.
An affectionate pup, Tito is always game for belly rubs and hugs. He’s great with children of all ages and would make a wonderful addition to any family, especially ones with other pets. Could it be your family?
