Adopt Tito from Lovebugs Rescue in San Clemente, CA! He is a Christmas Eve miracle! Tito’s original name in the shelter was Carson, because he was turned into Carson shelter. He was turned into the shelter after being found hit by a car, poor guy!

The shelter found a microchip number, but no owners ever came for him sadly, even when he needed them the most. The shelter had to keep him through the entire hold period, even though he clearly was in pain and had fractures. After his stray hold was over, he was moved to the LA City Harbor location. They did do xrays and a vet reported he had a left hip luxation, a left ischial fracture, bilateral sacroiliac luxations, and a right pubic bone fracture. But he sat in a shelter from December 13, 2023 until I found out about him on Christmas Eve, 11 whole days! Poor little guy!

When I heard his story on social media I just couldn’t let him spend Christmas in the shelter in pain. I spoke with one of our vets while getting ready to head out to pick him up at the shelter, and we were able to at least get enough pain medicine to get him covered until the day after Christmas. We also had him scheduled at an emergency orthopedic specialist for the day after Christmas to be evaluated, and thankfully they were able to do his surgery the day after that. We had him on crate rest in the meantime to keep him comfortable. Some of his meds made him sleepy and kept him calm and his foster played soft music and would sit with him often and just pet him and give him kisses so he knew he was safe.

We renamed him Tito so we could leave the thoughts of the shelter behind. Tito truly was amazing at how sweet and happy he was despite being in pain. We followed strict doctors orders post surgery so he would heal properly, and he did! Tito had a few post-op visits to have sutures removed, a new set of x-rays, and so forth and he has completely healed and been discharged from the care of the surgeon. We are so happy for him!! He has been enjoying the other dogs and doesn’t mind the cats in his foster home, and is glad to be able to go on long walks again. He just loves everyone he meets and is happy to roll over for belly rubs from anyone that will take the time to give him some. He is completely healthy, fully vaccinated and neutered.

Tito is also great with kids, and he loves to play fetch and chew toys. The one special thing is that he cannot be left along with plush toys, soft dog beds, and blankets because he will chew and eat them. So he sleeps on a tough dog pad if he’s not being cuddled or watched by someone. Tougher toys like Kongs, benabones, etc are much better choices for him. He is available through Lovebugs Rescue in southern CA and he is a 4 year old Dachshund mix, possibly with Beagle. Don’t miss your opportunity to add this love to your home!
