Stray Dog with Massive Tumor Finds Help from Good Samaritans – But Faces an Unexpected Obstacle
Life is anything but easy for stray dogs. Their survival is often hanging by a thread as they risk their lives to fend for themselves, and it’s even worse for strays battling medical conditions that cause them prolonged, agonizing pain.
Faith is one of these stray dogs who, just a couple of months ago, was facing a health battle that was too much for her to bear: a big, bleeding tumor on her underside. When the rescue team at Animal Terra, based in the Republic of Moldova in Eastern Europe, came to aid in November of last year, her pain and discomfort were apparent at first glance.
Treatment and Setbacks
As a stray, Faith often sought refuge in a makeshift kennel, where she spent most of her time. The rescue team managed to locate her and immediately kick-started her chemotherapy treatment, bearing in mind that every moment counted.
All was going well until winter came, when some inhumane guards chased Faith out of her kennel and blocked the entrance. Their only reason? That Faith smelt horrible and looked disgusting. This left helpless Faith without a ‘home,’ and she found herself out in the freezing cold, her cancerous tumor worsening with every passing hour. Thankfully, the rescuers were able to find her again before it was too late and transported her to a local shelter, where she resumed her treatment journey.

We started her treatment, but some absolutely mad guards locked the entrance to her kennel during the first snow of the season. She was freezing the whole night in deep snow. My heart still aches when I think about it. We couldn't find her for an entire day, and when we did, her wounds were much worse. Since then, she has been staying at another shelter where they have workers who take very good care of her, but we have to pay for her stay. Faith’s Before and After
Since her rescue, Faith has undergone more than 10 chemotherapy sessions. The tumor that covered her entire underside is almost invisible, and even though she’s not yet cancer-free, she looks much better. She’s still at the shelter, where she continues to receive round-the-clock medical care and attention.
Faith has a long way to go as far as her emotional well-being is concerned, and understandably so, given the cruelty she endured at the hands of the unkind guards. Although she can afford to smile and wag her tail tentatively from time to time, she’s quite fearful of new faces. Staff at the shelter understand that all Faith needs is time, and they are patient with her.
While Faith’s future remains uncertain, one thing is for sure: she’s destined for better days. Her rescue and remarkable progress are enough proof that any stray dog’s life can turn around, thanks to the life-changing work that rescues like Animal Terra do.
