Five Puppies Dead After Dogs Left in Freezing Temperatures—Petition Demands Lifetime Animal Ban
In Somerset County, Pennsylvania, authorities say a heartbreaking case of animal neglect has left five puppies dead and several adult dogs suffering in freezing winter temperatures. Now, animal advocates are demanding stronger consequences to ensure the people accused in the case are never allowed to care for animals again.
According to investigators, three adult dogs were discovered tied outside a home on Railroad Street in Windber while temperatures had dropped into the single digits. Police say the animals had no proper shelter, food, or water, and were severely underweight when they were found.

Puppies Found Dead After Being Separated From Their Mother
Authorities say the situation was even more devastating inside the home. Investigators discovered seven puppies confined in a crate, separated from their mother.
According to police reports, the puppies were unable to access their mother’s milk and were allegedly denied food and water. As a result, five of the seven puppies died.
The surviving animals were found in poor condition. Officers reported that the three adult dogs—a male Pitbull and two female Labradoodles—were extremely thin, with ribs and spines visibly protruding, a sign of prolonged neglect.
The animals were rescued after a relative of one of the suspects contacted authorities out of concern.
Nearly Three Dozen Animal Cruelty Charges
Following the investigation, Jessica Krise, 43, and Brad Cameron, 51, of Windber were charged with nearly three dozen counts related to animal cruelty and animal neglect, including felony aggravated cruelty to animals.
According to reports, the home where the animals were found was also in poor condition, with investigators noting that the property’s water supply had been shut off.
Court records show that Krise was released on unsecured bail and scheduled for a preliminary hearing. Cameron had not yet been arraigned at the time of reporting.
But animal advocates say criminal charges alone may not be enough to protect animals in the future.

Extreme weather can be deadly for animals left outdoors without shelter. Animal welfare experts warn that dogs tied outside in freezing conditions are at risk of hypothermia, starvation, dehydration, and severe suffering.
