Six Pets Rescued From Condemned Home in New York—Petition Demands Lifetime Animal Ban
Three dogs and three cats are safe today after authorities in Saratoga County, New York, say they were allegedly found living in severe neglect inside a home that was later condemned.
According to investigators, the animals had reportedly been denied proper food and water. The conditions were serious enough that officials removed all six animals by court order and transported them to a shelter for treatment and care.
Now, animal advocates are calling for stronger protections to ensure no animals suffer like this again.
A Welfare Check Uncovered Troubling Conditions

The investigation began on May 23 when deputies with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Lewis Road in Milton, New York, after receiving a request for a welfare check.
According to authorities, deputies discovered conditions that led them to conclude three dogs and three cats had allegedly not been provided with adequate food and water.
The six animals were subsequently seized by the Milton animal control officer through a court order and transported to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, where they could receive proper care and treatment.
Authorities later reported that the residence itself was condemned following an evaluation by the town’s code enforcement officer.

Criminal Charges Filed

Following the investigation, authorities arrested 21-year-old Tabetha Jones of Milton.
According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Jones was charged with six counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals; failure to provide sustenance.
She was later released on her own recognizance and is expected to appear in Milton Town Court at a later date.
While the criminal case moves through the legal system, animal advocates argue that situations involving multiple neglected animals require more than charges alone.
They believe prevention must be part of the conversation as well.
Why Advocates Are Calling for Counseling

Animal neglect cases often receive less attention than physical abuse cases, but animal welfare experts frequently point out that prolonged neglect can cause significant suffering.
Animals rely entirely on humans for food, water, shelter, and medical care. When those basic needs are not met, the consequences can include dehydration, illness, chronic stress, malnutrition, and long-term physical and emotional harm.
Supporters of the petition argue that mandatory mental health counseling could help address underlying issues that may contribute to neglect, while a permanent ownership ban could help prevent future animals from being placed at risk.

Six Animals Deserved Better
The most heartbreaking part of this case is that six animals were allegedly forced to endure conditions severe enough to trigger a court-ordered seizure and the condemnation of the home where they lived.
Fortunately, authorities intervened before it was too late.
The three dogs and three cats are now receiving the care they reportedly lacked for far too long.
But advocates say rescue alone is not enough.
They believe the next step is ensuring that if the allegations are proven in court, future animals are protected from experiencing the same fate.
