Meet Blue: The Hero Dog Who Ran 4 Miles to Find Help for His Owner After Car Crash

Dogs across the globe prove their loyalty to their owners every day, but one Pit Bull mix in Oregon is being hailed a hero after singlehandedly retrieving help for his owner and canine siblings following a car crash that left them all stranded. Blue is now receiving first-class treatment following the June 3 calamity, and all of the car’s occupants, including owner Brandon Garrett, are recovering safe and sound. This may not have been the case if the brave dog hadn’t sprung into action. Here’s how it happened:

One Missed Curve on the Way to Camp

On June 2, Garrett and his four dogs were driving in his truck on U.S. Forest Service Road 39 toward his family’s campsite. According to a press release from the Baker County Sherriff’s Office, “he failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to plummet off the embankment.” No one else was around when the accident occurred, and Garrett found himself stranded, alongside his furry friends, in a creek ravine.

Back at the camp, Garret’s family members began to grow wary when he still hadn’t arrived. He was expected at the camp on the afternoon of June 2, but a very smart and brave messenger came to get help instead. It was Blue!

Hero Dog Treks Over 4 Miles

After the truck crashed, an injured Garret decided that it was safest for his dogs to stay in the truck while he went to look for help. It’s unclear when exactly Blue left the truck, but while Garrett spent the night in the woods, Blue ran over 4 miles to the campsite where they were expected. This alerted the family to the man’s dire situation, and they searched for his truck until just after 9 AM on June 3. However, they couldn’t reach him.

This is when the heroes from the Baker County Sherrif’s Office, Baker County Search and Rescue, Pine Valley Rural Fire District and Halfway Ambulance took over the rescue mission. It took a large team of people and equipment to bring the man and his remaining dogs to safety, but they were able to do it with no further complications.

After the Sherriff’s Office shared pictures from the rescue on Facebook alongside a press release, it didn’t take long for people to start requesting a picture of the four-legged hero. Well, here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. This is the hero dog, Blue, and his grateful owner Brandon Garrett:

Blue takes ‘man’s best friend’ to an entirely new level with his dedication and loyalty to his family. Garrett’s family confirmed in the press release’s comments that all involved in the crash are recovering well, though I certainly hope Blue is getting some special treatment after his brave journey.
