Man Leaves Heartbreaking Note As He Abandons His 8-Year Loyal Dog, Begging Strangers To Love Her

Sometimes circumstances out of our control leave pet owners with  no choice but to give up the animals they love. Such was the case with Layla, an eight year old Pit Bull Terrier who was very loved by her owner and a huge part of their family. Her owner lost his home and was no longer able to keep her. He tried to rehome her but was unable to find anybody to take her in. This is Layla’s story.

Layla Was Found Abandoned

Layla was found in northwestern Georgia confused, scared, and alone in a crate in April 2022. There was a letter attached to the crate, making it clear that the owner felt that this was his last resort:

“Hello, my name is Layla. I am 8 years old, and my owner lost his home. I was loved for 8 years. He is truly sorry to do this to me. He tried no kill shelters, but no one would take me. I am a good girl that prefers male dogs over females. I’m laid back. Please don’t have me killed.”

Layla Is Hoping To Find a Family’s Love Again

It’s been almost two years since Layla was abandoned, and she is currently living with a foster family. Her caretakers say that she is “just the sweetest!” and described her as a “total couch potato.”

Because she was loved by her previous owner for eight years, she knows what it’s like to be a house dog and part of a family. When she was found, she was already potty and crate trained. She doesn’t mind her crate at all as long as she is in a comfy spot around people; her foster family referred to her as a “velcro dog”. She loves other dogs, does great around kids, but she’s not a big fan of cats.

Because she’s an older dog, she’s not as active as she once was and does not require much exercise. She likes to go out to walk for a potty break, but prefers to be inside the house resting. She loves to please her humans and is food motivated. All she wants is affection, the occasional treat, and bones to chew on.

She’s also healthy and has been “spayed, current on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm tested negative, and microchipped. She is on monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative.”
