After Surviving Surrender & Severe Skin Infections, Sweet Senior Boo is Ready For A 2nd Chance

10-year-old Boo may be entering her golden years, but in her mind, she’s still a spry young pup. She’s met life’s challenges with nothing but bravery and joy, and her rescuers at Silicon Valley Pet Project agree that it’s time she found her forever home.

This sweet Pit Bull mix first arrived at the rescue in March 2024 as an owner surrender. While her owner surely loved her, they sadly couldn’t afford to keep up with her veterinary care and ongoing health needs. They made the difficult choice to hand Boo over to a San Jose animal shelter so she could get the help she needed, and it paid off for Boo in the best of ways. She was pulled from the shelter by SVPP, and now she’s feeling better every day as she recuperates in foster care. There’s only one thing missing in her life: a forever home!

Rest, Recovery, and Recreation

Boo was taken for a vet exam once she was pulled from the shelter, where vets found severe cases of pyoderma–a bacterial skin infection–and dermatitis, an inflammatory skin condition. She also had a paw injury (there was an embedded foxtail in her paw!), chronic ear infections, and bad teeth. Based on her fur loss and deep skin pigmentation, vets have reason to believe that she was suffering from infections for years, but now her luck–and her health–are finally turning around.

This dog’s dedicated foster moms have played a key role in her healing journey, from giving her plenty of love to adjusting her treatment plan time and time again. After a few months of care, her fur is regrowing as her skin condition improves. Boo loves her medicated baths, and she’s so grateful for the treatment! She’s also on a new, chicken-free diet to help with her allergies, but the changes are paying off beautifully.

Boo’s Best Match

It’s no secret that Boo is thriving in her foster home, but the best thing for her would be to settle in with a forever family. They’ll need to continue her medicated treatments for the time being, but they’ll quickly find that this rescue dog’s love is worth every bit of effort. Boo is a people-loving dog through and through, and she thanks her loved ones with lots of affection and cuddles. If she had it her way, her humans would be home with her 24/7!

Boo would love an owner who gives her plenty of attention and playtime. She would thrive as the only dog in the home but can also coexist well with some calm, larger dogs. She has shown interest in chasing cats and smaller dogs, though, so these kinds of pets would not be her ideal roommates.

This rescue dog’s foster moms call leash walking her ‘superpower.’ Not only does she love going on walks, but she’s also non-reactive to other dogs and people while on leash. She doesn’t pull the leash, either, so she’d be an excellent walking buddy for a retired person who likes to go outside but isn’t in a rush. Boo loves to play with toys and balls when she still has energy, and if you’re lucky, you’ll even hear her playful snorts.

It’s no secret that this playful senior dog has a lot of joy and love to share. Could you be the one she gets to share it with? If you’re near the Bay Area or Silicon Valley and would like to know more about Boo, you can familiarize yourself with the rescue’s adoption process on their website. Good luck, and happy tails!
