A little over a year ago, Jack’s life took a turn for the worse. His owners decided they no longer wanted him and surrendered the senior Pitbull to the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia. (Watch the video below)
When Jack first arrived at the shelter, he was 12 years old, but he still had plenty of energy and love to give. Everyone thought he would find a home—or at least a foster family—quickly. After all, who wouldn’t want to spend their days with such a sweet senior Pitbull?
Sadly, no one came forward for Jack. Weeks turned into months, and Jack’s 13th birthday came and went with no place to call home. Eventually, he reached his one-year anniversary at the shelter without any adoption applications or fosters stepping up.
Fortunately, Jack didn’t have to spend that year alone. A social media influencer helped keep his spirits up and spread the word about this lovable Pitbull in need.
Volunteers Give Shelter Dogs Life-Saving Time & Affection
Shelter staff members do their best to give dogs as much attention and love as possible, but there’s always too much to do and too few hours in the day. Volunteers who sign up to walk shelter dogs or give them a day out are lifesavers. Even small moments of affection from volunteers can vastly improve the mental health of shelter pups.
Rachel, a social media influencer and animal advocate, shared videos about dogs in need on her TikTok account. She visited Jack at the shelter, took him for walks, and brought him on special adventures. They went to the creek, played with toys, took car rides, and even had sleepovers where Jack would be pampered.
Every time Rachel saw Jack at the shelter, he was eagerly waiting! This sweet senior Pitbull craved human affection, but it seemed like other people weren’t seeing his charm.
