This Goofy Pitbull Is a Staff Favorite, so Why Has She Waited 600 Days For a Forever Home?
With velvety chocolate fur and soulful brown eyes, 6-year-old Bailey has captivated staff and volunteers at the animal shelter for over 600 days. Despite her effervescent personality and ability to brighten any room, this beloved pit bull mix still awaits her perfect forever family.
Bailey’s Big Brown Eyes Yearn for a Forever Home
An Enduring Spirit “Bailey is such a resilient, loving dog,” said shelter staff. “She adores people and just craves affection and playtime.” Originally an owner surrender due to chewing behavior and perceived aggression toward other dogs, Bailey has blossomed at the shelter. “We recently did some positive reinforcement training, and she did great socializing with other pups. She’s ready for a fresh start.”
A Misconception That Clouds Her Chances
While Bailey’s sweet, goofy personality shines through to anyone who meets her, staff believe her breed and dark fur may be unconscious deterrents to some potential adopters. So-called “black dog syndrome” and persistent stigma against pit bull-type dogs have led many families to tragically overlook Bailey during her extended shelter stay. However, those who’ve gotten to know this velvety pibble quickly see her affectionate, treat-motivated nature has nothing to do with her appearance. Staff remain hopeful that the right open-minded owner will appreciate Bailey’s inner beauty.
Resilience and Quirks
Remarkably, Bailey has shown no signs of kennel stress, a testament to her resilience. “She’s not letting kennel life get her down,” staff shared. Her quirky personality shines through in her clever treat-hiding antics and expert treat-catching abilities, bringing smiles to the faces of those around her. “Bailey has this adorable way of hiding her treats,” a staff member shares with a chuckle. “And her eye-mouth coordination is impressive!” Bailey loves digging little holes to stash her treats and catching them when we toss them her way.”
“A Total Love Bug”
Tail-Wagging for a New Chapter While living at the shelter for nearly two years would test any dog’s patience, staff have been touched by Bailey’s unwavering zest for life and human companionship. “She’s a total love bug who just wants someone to give her undivided attention and sunbathe with,” they said. “Bailey is house-trained, knows basic commands like sit and stay, and is treat-motivated. She’s really the complete package.”
With puppy-like spirit and affection to spare, Bailey hopes her unicorn family will take a chance on her soon. Fitting best in a single-pet household, this once-overlooked pit bull’s future has never looked brighter.
“Bailey has so much love to give,” staff said. “She’s a gem, and we know her perfect person is out there.”
