Popular YouTuber Rocky Kanaka Aims to Empty an Entire Shelter of 140 Dogs in One Week—Can He Do It?
LOS ANGELES & RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA – Pet rescue advocate and popular YouTube personality Rocky Kanaka is on a mission to find homes for over 140 animals at the Animal Friends of the Valleys shelter from July 18-24. His ambitious goal is to break the shelter’s one-week adoption record by emptying it completely.
All adoption fees will be waived during this week-long event, thanks to the generous support of the Bissell Pet Foundation. Every animal will be spayed/neutered courtesy of the Lucky Chi Dog Rescue and transportation may be paid (for dogs that are able to travel) if you want to adopt and you’re out of state.
140 Dogs Adopted in One Week?
In addition to being a tireless champion of pet rescue, Kanaka is an Emmy-nominated TV Host, Pet
Chef and the owner of The Dog Bakery, a popular spot for dogs and their humans in three Los
Angeles locations (LA’s Original Farmer’s Market by The Grove, Old Town Pasadena and at Belmont
Shore in Long Beach).
He’s also an engaging YouTube personality whose unbridled passion to get
shelter dogs rescued has attracted a fan base of over 7.5 million followers across YouTube and other
social platforms.
Animal Friends of the Valleys shelter is located at 33751 Mission Trail in Wildomar, CA, 92595, near Temecula, driving distance from Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside County cities, and Palm Springs. The shelter will be open during the event week as follows:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Sunday: noon – 4 p.m.

Those who come out to support the event on the weekend can also sample a special new cold brew from Flip Coffee, a coffee brand named after his late, beloved boxer Flip. As a tribute to Flip, who was a mentor and guide to the many dogs he and his wife fostered, every purchase supports shelter dog rehabilitation.
Each day a shelter pet available for adoption will be featured in Rocky’s popular YouTube series
‘Sitting with Dogs,’ where he shines a much-needed light on dogs in need of a loving home and a
second chance. The seven new episodes will drop daily July 18-24 on his YouTube Channel. In every
episode, he sits with a shelter dog in their individual kennel, comforting them while sharing the
compelling story behind each one.
Rocky has traveled all over the country helping dogs that have been forgotten, abandoned or abused,
and sharing those stories as host of the Netflix show ‘Save Our Shelter’ and on ‘Dog’s Day Out’ on
YouTube and Facebook.
Through his videos and social channels, Rocky spreads awareness about pet adoption, fostering and
volunteering, with the goal of inspiring his audience to help animals and shelters in their local
communities any way they can.
