Pennsylvania Woman Accused of Ordering Teen to Kill Dog—Petition Calls for Justice and Intervention
In a deeply disturbing case out of Blair County, Pennsylvania, a woman is accused of instructing a teenager to kill her dog—an act that has shocked the community and raised urgent questions about accountability and prevention.
According to authorities, 33-year-old Katie Leonard allegedly told a 17-year-old boy to “kill the dog” after she was unable to rehome it. The teen later told investigators he was concerned about causing pain and initially attempted to break the dog’s neck. When that failed, police say he struck the dog multiple times with a metal baseball bat.

A Brutal Attack—and a Dog That Survived

The dog, named Bailey, suffered severe injuries, including head trauma, a skull fracture, and multiple lacerations. After the attack, the teen believed the dog had died and placed it in a box in the backyard.
But days later, the woman discovered the dog was still alive and eventually brought it to a veterinary hospital—though authorities say treatment was delayed. Veterinarians confirmed the extent of the injuries, as well as signs of serious malnourishment.
Despite the brutality of the attack, Bailey survived and received emergency care.

A Pattern of Neglect Raises More Concerns
As investigators looked deeper, they uncovered another troubling detail. Inside the same box where Bailey had been placed, authorities found the decomposing remains of a puppy believed to have died weeks earlier.
According to reports, the puppy had been in poor condition prior to its death. Authorities say the woman initially denied ever owning the puppy before later claiming it had died in its crate.
This discovery has raised concerns about a pattern of neglect that extended beyond a single incident.
Charges Filed—But Advocates Say More Is Needed

Both the woman and the teenager now face multiple animal cruelty charges, including felony aggravated cruelty. The woman is currently being held on bail as the case moves forward.
While charges have been filed, advocates stress that meaningful consequences—including long-term intervention—are critical to preventing future harm.
Why This Case Matters
This was not an accident or a moment of poor judgment. It was a series of decisions that led to extreme suffering—first for a puppy that did not survive, and then for a dog who endured a violent attack.
Cases like this highlight the need not only for justice, but for prevention. Without intervention, there is a risk that similar acts could happen again.
