Puppy Beaten on Camera, Abuser Fined Just $1,500—Petition Demands Lifetime Ban
A Queensland puppy cried, cowered, and desperately tried to escape while allegedly being beaten, dragged across concrete, and shoved against a metal pole.
The abuse was captured on video.
Yet despite a magistrate describing the treatment as “absolutely outrageous,” the man responsible received a $1,500 fine, no conviction was recorded, and no order was issued preventing him from owning animals in the future.
Video Captured Disturbing Abuse

The case centers on a puppy named Gucci, who was reportedly subjected to repeated physical abuse at a rental property in Logan, Queensland.
According to court proceedings, video footage showed Eriz Kevin Dela Cruz Alejo shaking the puppy out of a plastic kennel before dragging the dog across a concrete patio. The footage allegedly showed him striking the puppy multiple times in the head and forcing the animal against a metal pole.
The puppy can be heard crying and squealing as it attempts to get away.
Authorities later removed Gucci from the property, and the dog was seized by the RSPCA.
The case sparked outrage among animal advocates who believed the video showed far more than a momentary lapse in judgment.
A Guilty Plea—But No Ban on Future Ownership
Alejo pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
During proceedings, a lawyer for Queensland’s Department of Primary Industries said Alejo admitted he had been “disciplining the dog” but acknowledged that his actions were excessive.

Magistrate Terry Duroux strongly condemned the conduct.
“Your behaviour towards the animal was absolutely outrageous,” the magistrate said.
The court imposed a $1,500 fine and court costs. However, no conviction was recorded, and prosecutors did not seek a prohibition order that would have prevented Alejo from owning animals in the future.
Under Queensland law, courts can issue animal ownership bans in appropriate cruelty cases.
Instead, Alejo remains legally able to acquire more pets.
For many observers, that outcome has become the most troubling part of the case.
Public Questions Whether Justice Was Served

The case drew widespread attention after members of the public reported the abuse and pushed for accountability.
One person involved in reporting the incident said they were left devastated by the sentence.
Many animal advocates argue that when severe cruelty is captured on video and results in a guilty plea, penalties should focus not only on punishment but also on preventing future harm.
They point to the lack of an ownership ban and the absence of mandatory intervention measures as missed opportunities to protect other animals.
Dogs Deserve Protection, Not Violence
Gucci was a young puppy entirely dependent on humans for safety and care.
Instead, court records describe treatment that left the animal frightened, injured, and desperately trying to escape.
While the legal case may be over, many believe the broader conversation is just beginning.
Animal cruelty cases are not only about what happened to one dog. They are about preventing future suffering and ensuring vulnerable animals are protected before another tragedy occurs.
