Owner Set to Euthanize Pitbull Before He Moved, Until Selfless Act of Kindness Changed Everything

Just weeks ago, the future was frighteningly uncertain for Kyra, a 9-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier from Nashville. After living most of her life with her owners, their recent move to the city created tensions that made it impossible for them to keep Kyra and another dog in the home. With nowhere else to turn, Kyra’s family made the decision to have her euthanized.

Unlike many rescue situations where dogs are pulled from overcrowded shelters, Kyra’s salvation came in the ultimate eleventh hour. Her owners had already taken the step of taking her to the veterinary clinic and checking her in for euthanasia. However, Kyra’s fate took an unexpected turn when the veterinary staff contacted Forget Me Not Rescue, made them aware of Kyra’s situation, and gave the rescue a chance to intervene before it was too late. “Unlike most of our dogs she wasn’t in the shelter but at her euthanasia appointment at the vet!” said Sara Geny, the rescue’s Founder and Director.

“It really bugs me when dogs are needlessly euthanized and this was a case of that in my opinion,” Geny said. “We are grateful the family happily agreed to the alternative!” Suddenly, the senior pit bull had a second chance after the harrowing brush with euthanasia…

The Search for a Forever Home

Currently in boarding due to the lack of a foster home, Kyra spends her days yearning for a family. Her routine includes playing in the yard but what she truly desires is to snuggle up on a couch, surrounded by love. “She’s a very loyal and loving companion who is just looking for someone’s life to brighten,” Geny says, underscoring Kyra’s readiness to fill a home with joy and affection.

While Kyra may be a senior dog, she still has plenty of energy and love to give. “This pretty girl loves to run and be outside, but also loves to snuggle up on a blanket on the couch,” Geny said. “She is very fond of playing fetch and cuddling with her humans.”

A People (and Pup) Person

Kyra gets along great with children, having lived harmoniously with three young girls in her previous home. “She can be standoffish or bark at some men, but she usually warms up to them after a few minutes,” Geny notes.

Kyra’s amiable nature extends to other pets as well. “She has lived with other dogs most of her life. She has been totally chill with cats and will even nap with them.”

Seeking Her Perfect Match

“No adoption interest so far. A senior pit bull isn’t exactly ahigh demand dog I’m sorry to say. The supply of bully breeds is ample.”

The rescue is always in need of fosters, and Kyra’s specific energy level rules out some potential temporary homes. “We are always foster short…Of course some housing doesn’t allow ‘pit bulls’ and even though she is a senior she still has a good bit of energy so not everyone is a fit for that,” said Geny.

A Loving Companion

Yet Geny and the rest of the rescue remain hopeful that the perfect family will open their home and hearts to Kyra soon. After all, she’s simply “a very loyal and loving companion who is just looking for someone’s life to brighten!”

Transport Available

Forget Me Not Rescue is determined to find Kyra a loving home where she can enjoy her golden years. With the capability to transport her from Gulfport, MS, to Ontario, the rescue is casting a wide net, hoping to connect Kyra with her perfect match. “Please help us get her into a permanent home (or even foster) ASAP,” Geny appeals, emphasizing the urgency of Kyra’s situation.
