Mama Dog Found Tied to Tree with 7 Pups in Box. Babies All Adopted But Mama Still Waits

A sad and distressing discovery was made on a cold night in January at Iglesia Park in Aliso Viejo, California. A one and a half year old Siberian Husky and German Shepherd mix named Angel was found abandoned and tied to a tree with a thin rope at around 9 P.M. Angel wasn’t the only dog who had been left there; a box was placed next to her that held her seven puppies. This is the story of the canine family’s rescue, and Angel’s journey to finding a forever home.

Still A Puppy Herself, Angel and Her Puppies Are Found Healthy

It was unknown how long the dogs had been there when Mission Viejo Animal Services found the young mother and her babies. Although they were found safe and healthy, no food, water, or shelter was left for them. It was also coyote mating season and significant numbers of them roamed through Aliso Viejo at night looking for mates. Because Angel was tied to the tree she had no way to protect her babies should one show up.

Animal Services took the dogs to be checked out. Angel was not microchipped, but it was clear that Angel was well cared for before being abandoned and that she came from a family. “She rolls over in submission when getting pets and will crawl up into your lap for attention. Simply put, Angel is a great dog,” said Kelly Tokarski, the public information specialist for the city of Mission Viejo.

Tokarski went on to say that mom and her puppies all received baths, vaccines, and the Dedicated Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) paid for their medical needs. Angel was also spayed.

Angel Is Now Ready to Be Adopted and Looking for Her Forever Home

It didn’t take long for all seven of Angel’s babies to be adopted, but she is still waiting for her fur-ever family to find her. Shelter workers describe Angel as one of the “nicest, kindest dogs we’ve ever met” and as a true “love bug.”

Local law enforcement is reviewing video cameras in the surrounding areas to see if they can determine who is responsible for Angel’s abandonment, proving that crimes against animals will not be tolerated by the city. According to the California Penal Code, it’s a misdemeanor to willfully abandon an animal and the possible punishment is a fine of $1,000 and up to six months in jail.
