Days From Euthanasia, Mama Pittie Finds Hope; Her Remarkable Rescue Sparks Joy (Now She Needs A Home)
Bonnie, a petite pittie mix, found herself facing an uncertain future at a Turlock, CA shelter. Scheduled for euthanasia due to space limitations, her days were numbered. However, a stroke of luck and the dedication of California Bully Rescue intervened, offering her a second chance at a happy life.
Discovered roaming as a stray with a male companion dubbed Clyde, Bonnie was lactating but with no puppies in sight. Her prospects looked bleak until an urgent appeal from the shelter reached California Bully Rescue. Tricia, the COO, shares the urgency of the moment: “The shelter sent us a desperate plea regarding Bonnie’s predicament. Facing imminent euthanasia and labeled as ‘at risk,’ we immediately tapped into our network to secure a foster home for her. It was a race against time to give her another chance at life.”
Adjusting to a New Life
Saved just days before her scheduled euthanasia, Bonnie’s transition to a foster home was not without its challenges. Known for her friendly disposition towards humans and a playful, affectionate nature, Bonnie still showed signs of reactivity, necessitating slow and structured introductions to her new environment.
Returned After One Day
In an emotional rollercoaster that underscores her resilience, Bonnie was briefly adopted, experiencing the warmth of a home for a single day before being returned due to a rushed transition that didn’t allow her the necessary time to adjust. Sadly, this is a very familiar scenario in dog rescue.
From Surviving to Thriving
Her foster home in San Rafael, California, provided the stability and love she needed to start coming out of her shell. “Bonnie has shown us how eager she is to please and how much she enjoys the company of children. She’s truly a mellow gal, working every day on becoming more confident,” Tricia shares with a smile.
Bonnie’s days are now filled with pack walks, sunbathing, and fetch games in the backyard, a far cry from her uncertain fate at the shelter. Despite her difficult start, Bonnie has blossomed in foster care, thanks to the dedication of her foster parents and the support of professional training provided by Be Spoke Canine in Gilroy, CA.
“She’s a member of the Itty Bitty Pitty committee, always ready for a snack, and loves to curl up in your lap under the warmest blankets,” Tricia laughs, showcasing Bonnie’s endearing quirks.
A Lifetime of Support
California Bully Rescue has invested heavily in Bonnie’s future, providing her with professional training and ongoing support. “She spent four weeks in a board and train program with her trainer, Lee Johnson,” Tricia says. “Bonnie comes with lifetime assistance from her trainer, group classes, one-on-one lessons, and more, for anyone who takes a chance on this amazing girl!”
“Bonnie comes with lifetime assistance from her trainer, including group classes and 1:1 lessons. She’s made remarkable progress and is ready to find her forever home,” Tricia adds, highlighting the comprehensive support Bonnie will continue to receive.
A Forever Home on the Horizon?
Despite her transformation and the love she has to offer, finding a forever home for Bonnie has been challenging. A brief adoption ended in return due to the family moving too quickly for Bonnie’s comfort. However, hope remains that the right family will come along, one that understands the importance of patience and slow introductions for a dog like Bonnie.
A Call to Action
For those interested in learning more about Bonnie or considering adoption, California Bully Rescue emphasizes the importance of commitment and understanding of the needs of rescue animals. Bonnie, the playful and affectionate pit mix who once faced an uncertain fate, is now waiting for the perfect family to offer her the love and stability she deserves. Could you be the one to complete Bonnie’s journey from rescue to a forever home?
