How Love and Care at Flip’s Farm is Helping Two Terriers Heal One Step at a Time

If you’ve been following our journey, you might already know about Pippa and Polly, two adorable terriers who came into our lives through rescue. But if you’re new to the story, buckle up, because these two have quite the tale to tell.

Pippa and Polly are sisters—or maybe mother and daughter, we’re still waiting on their DNA test results to confirm. What we do know is that these two came to us in rough shape. They’ve got medical challenges, unique personalities, and a whole lot of love to give. Let me walk you through their journey so far.

 Pippa and Polly

Pippa and Polly’s Big Personalities

Let’s start with a little introduction.

  • Pippa (or Pip, as we call her): She’s about eight years old, smaller, and could be Polly’s mom. She’s got some sass but melts into a puddle of sweetness when she’s relaxed.
  • Polly: She’s six years old, a little bigger, and definitely the boss of the two. She’s fiercely protective of her sister and incredibly treat motivated—seriously, she’ll do backflips for a snack.

These two are inseparable, and while it’s too soon to call them a bonded pair officially, I’ve made a promise: they’ll only go to a new home together.

Polly’s Medical Challenges

 Pippa and Polly

Polly has faced the bigger medical hurdles so far, but we’re tackling them one by one. Here’s what we’ve uncovered:

  1. Heart Murmur: This is something she’ll live with, but it’s manageable. At first, we thought she might need emergency surgery, but for now, monitoring is enough.
  2. Uterine Fluid (Hydrometra): This one’s urgent. She’ll need a delicate surgery to remove it, which we’ll combine with her spay.
  3. Dental Issues: Like many small dogs, Polly’s teeth aren’t in great shape. We’ll assess everything while she’s under for her surgery and address what’s necessary.

Despite her challenges, Polly remains upbeat and as bossy as ever—especially when treats are involved!

Pippa’s Road to Recovery

She’s in Pain - Shelter dog Dumped in Box Asks me for Help | Part 1
Pippa and Polly are sisters that arrived in sad condition, and need further help not only reuniting, but also healing. RK takes them to Flip’s Farm after getting them groomed by Mel.

Pippa might look like she’s been through more, but surprisingly, her list of medical needs is shorter. Here’s her situation:

  1. Skin Allergies: Her fur is growing back, and she’s less pink—a big win! We’re waiting on allergy test results to help her heal even more.
  2. Dental Problems: Like Polly, she’ll need some teeth extracted, which will be a game-changer for her health.
  3. Mammary Masses: Likely from having puppies in the past, these will be addressed during her spay surgery.

Pippa’s skin has been a focus of her recovery. She used to have bald patches and thin, sensitive skin, but now her fur is coming in beautifully. It’s proof that proper care, a stress-free environment, and lots of love can work wonders.

The Progress We’re Celebrating

Every small win with these girls feels monumental. Polly has gained a little weight, which is no small feat for such a tiny pup. Pippa’s fur is growing back, and she’s even showing off some playful puppy-like behavior. Watching these two come out of their shells has been one of the most rewarding experiences.

What’s Next for Pippa and Polly

We’ve got a plan to tackle their medical needs step by step. Polly’s surgery for her uterine fluid is the most urgent, followed by dental work and spaying for both girls. With older dogs like these, we take it slow to ensure they heal properly. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but we’re in it for the long haul.

Once they’re healthy and ready, we’ll start looking for a forever home that can take both Pippa and Polly. I know it won’t be easy to find someone who can adopt two dogs, but I believe there’s a family out there for them. Until then, they’ll continue to heal, play, and enjoy life on the farm.

Thank You for Supporting Their Journey

None of this would be possible without you—the amazing community that supports our work. Every super thanks, membership, and share makes a difference, helping us cover vet bills, food, and all the little extras that make these dogs’ lives better. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

If you want to follow along, stay tuned for updates on Pippa and Polly, Pumpkin, and all the other dogs we’re rehabilitating at Flip’s Farm. These lives don’t move as fast as social media, but every step forward is a victory worth celebrating.🐾
