Heartbreak as Sweet Shelter Dog Greets Every Adopter with a Toy & Wagging Tail – But Still Gets Overlooked
They say desperate times call for desperate measures, and this seems to be the phrase that 3-year-old Marty — a resident at the Humane Society of Broward County — lives by as he awaits his happy ending. As other dogs in the shelter sit sadly in their kennels, Marty chooses to maintain a hopeful spirit by doing things differently.
Whenever he sees a potential adopter approach his kennel, Marty quickly grabs and brings forward one of his favorite soft plush toys as he wags his tail, all in an effort to get noticed. Marty just wants to show those passing him by that he’s a good boy worthy of a loving home, and hopes that the toy in his mouth will convey his intentions.
A Mysterious Past
According to the shelter, Marty was found wandering the streets by a good samaritan who saved him from getting struck by a car. Unfortunately, the shelter couldn’t tell whether he was someone’s pet since he neither had a microchip nor a collar. As days went by without anyone claiming him, Marty entered the shelter’s books as one of their adoptable dogs.
Even though his past remains a mystery, one thing is clear: Marty desires to feel loved and be a cherished canine family member. He wants to be out of the shelter so badly, and if that means using his plush toys to impress every single visitor who walks by, he will do it over and over again until someone finally locks eyes with him and commits to taking him home.
