Dogs’ Reactions to Christmas Toys Will Leave You Smiling

This year, I wanted to do something extra special for shelter dogs: let them pick out their very own Christmas presents. These dogs are good dogs who deserve love, joy, and a chance to feel the true spirit of the holidays. So, Happy Holidog from Santa Paws! (Watch video above)

Bringing the Joy of Christmas to Shelter Dogs

Many shelter dogs have never experienced the joy of Christmas. They’ve never had their own toy or been spoiled with special treats. That’s why I cleared the shelves of Bark Toys to make sure that every pup, big or small, knows they’re loved this holiday season. With Bark sponsoring this video, we’re able to spread the holiday cheer even further.

First Stop: A Second Chance for a Sweet Pup

We started with a one-year-old pup who’s had it rough. She came in as a stray and was ready for adoption, but then caught kennel cough, and her adopter backed out. Despite her setbacks, she’s full of life and happiness. Watching her bounce around and pick out a Doggos toy was heartwarming. And the best news? She’s been adopted just in time for Christmas.

Meet Yeti: A Dog with Unique Moves

Next up was Yeti, known for his spinning antics during walks. His high energy might have been too much for his previous family, but to me, it’s what makes him special. Yeti picked out a toy with his signature enthusiasm, and I’m hoping someone who loves hiking and active dogs will make him part of their family this Christmas.

Moose: The Gentle Giant

Then there was Moose, a 103-pound sweetheart who turned heads with his reindeer-like charm. Despite his size, Moose just wanted love more than any toy. Watching him carefully inspect the presents was a reminder of how much these dogs need kindness and attention. And guess what? Moose’s meet-and-greet went so well that he’s getting adopted too!

Tiny Dasher and the Importance of Love

One of the smallest pups in the shelter, Dasher, weighs less than a bag of Oreos. It’s hard to imagine anyone giving up such a tiny, helpless dog, but she’s here now, and we’re making sure she feels the holiday spirit. With a new bed, pillow, and toys almost as big as she is, Dasher is ready to find her forever home.

Yogi’s Moment of Joy

Yogi, another shelter dog, had his turn to pick out a toy. Dogs like Yogi are often confused and heartbroken about why they’re in a shelter, but moments like this—receiving love and a special gift—help reassure them that better days are ahead. Yogi’s sweet nature shone through, and he left with a ball and a smile.

Bear: The Longest Shelter Resident

Finally, we met Bear, the shelter’s longest resident. It’s heartbreaking to see such a loving and playful dog overlooked, but I’m hoping his Christmas moment changes that. Bear chose a rocket toy and showed off his kind and gentle personality. Let’s make sure Bear has a home for the holidays.

A Christmas to Remember

Every dog at the shelter received a toy from Santa Paws. Thanks to Bark’s support, we were able to go above and beyond to make this holiday season unforgettable for these pups. Even my foster dog, Tulip, got in on the fun with a special double-stuffed BarkBox. Watching her excitement was pure joy.

This holiday season, let’s not forget the shelter dogs who need homes and love. If you’re interested in adopting any of these amazing dogs, they’re waiting for you at Animal Friends of the Valleys.
