Dumped Dog Roamed Busy Road, Lost & Confused — Then Hope Arrived
A few days ago, Kristin Erwin — founder of the Streethearts Project, a non-profit rescue based in Houston — was driving around when she made a heartbreaking discovery that quickly turned into a rescue operation. Running back and forth in confusion along the busy highway was a helpless dog, now named Eggnog, whose world had been turned upside world. (Watch Video Below)

Eggnog — estimated to be around 5-6 years old — had been dumped by his previous family, and sadly, left at the mercy of oncoming traffic. Unable to turn a blind eye to Eggnog’s predicament, Kristin pulled over, determined to do everything possible to lure this lovely pup into safety.
A Failed Attempt
Since Kristin didn’t have any treats or dog food in her car at the time, luring Eggnog wasn’t easy. All she could do was softly call the dog, hoping he’d lower his guard and accept her help. Unfortunately, this sweet-faced pup had trust issues based on how wary he was whenever Kristin tried to approach him. Eggnog eventually took off, leaving Kristin worried about his whereabouts.
This setback, however, did not dampen Kristin’s desire to trace Eggnog. She couldn’t shake away the image of this hopeless pup from her mind, prompting her to return to the same site two days later. Thankfully, she once again spotted Eggnog. Kristin restarted her rescue mission, this time with a more strategic plan.
@streetheartstx We spotted this little guy running along a busy road. He looked lost and confused. I tried to get him to trust me but he wasn’t interested. I had to give up and leave but then I saw him again two days later. This time I had food packed with me. Once we got him home, he was still trembling but he let me handle him and pet him. We will give him time to see we’re good people 💜 Streetheartsproject.com

The Unforgettable Capture
Once Kristin arrived, she set up a dog trap near where she had packed her car. She had brought with her a large piece of steak, along with other irresistible foods, to lure Eggnog to walk into the trap.
It didn’t take long before Eggnog got a whiff of the enticing food smells and approached the trap, albeit hesitantly. Then, moments later, the trap’s door shut, safely capturing a frightened Eggnog. Kristin loaded him into her vehicle and transported him home with just one goal in mind: to heal his broken heart by fostering him.
A Day at a Time
Immediately Eggnog arrived at Kristin’s home, his fearful demeanor stood out. Though he did not exhibit any aggressive behaviors, his body trembled out of fear. Eggnog’s eyes held the look of a dog unsure of whether he could trust again, and Kristin knew exactly what she needed to do: to be patient with the sweet pup as he adjusted to his new environment.
While Eggnog would allow Kristin to pet her, he’d not reciprocate the affection extended to him, and understandably so. Despite all this, Kristin remained persistent in showing him love and kindness.
Amazingly, Eggnog began to warm up to Kristin just after a few days of being in his foster home. He started to seek out his rescuer, as though sensing that he was finally in a safe place under the care of someone he could trust. Fast forward to today, Eggnog has already started showing his playful side and seems pretty relaxed in Kristin’s presence. He’s no longer the scared dog that walked into Kristin’s doors a few days ago.
Although his future remains uncertain, we’re confident that being under Kristin’s care will eventually lead him into the arms of a forever family.
“Kristin has given Eggnog a chance to experience true love once again after he was betrayed by perhaps the only family he knew. His transformation from a terrified dog to a hopeful one is a reminder of the power of human kindness on dogs who’ve faced the worst,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka.
