Shelter Dog Gets Royal Treatment With Epic ‘Freedom Day’ Outing to Find a “Furever Family”
Johnathan Lower is a famous Instagram and TikTok star known for creating funny videos with his Golden Retriever, Teddy. The two are known for the “pranks” they pull on each other. They have nearly 8 million followers, and beginning in 2023, Johnathan decided to use his fame to help put the spotlight on other dogs as well, but for a very different reason.
Jonathan created Shelter Dog Saturdays, where he features dogs at local shelters that have been there for months and still need homes. He takes the pooches out for a day on the town full of attention, treats, and fun. His heartwarming efforts provide homeless pups exposure so that they can find loving homes. This is Venus’ story.
Meet 3-Year-Old Venus
Johnathan met Venus at Anderson County PAWS, a no kill shelter in Anderson, South Carolina. There was no mention of how or why Venus ended up at the shelter, but she had been there for about three months. When Johnathan picked her up, she was hesitant and nervous, “unsure of what to expect.” He tried to win her over by stopping for a Pup Cup at Starbucks, which she really enjoyed judging by her wagging tail.
Next they headed to PetSmart for a new toy, but Venus was still nervous and uninterested in playing with any toys. They made the best of the visit, and got her a new leash complete with a new pink dog tag with her name on it. They sampled treats and left with some other goodies for her to eventually take with her when she found her “furever home.”
From there, they headed to Barkery Bistro…it seems the way to Venus’ heart is through her stomach and treats are definitely her love language! They enjoyed a treat there that she got to pick out herself before heading to the park. They visited the ducks – which she wasn’t interested in – and got in a long walk, something the shelter said that she loved. They ended their day together with a chicken taco and lots of pets and love from Johnathan.
A Plea to Adopt Sweet Venus
After a day full of attention and fun, Venus was tired! They went back to the shelter, and Johnathan described Venus’ personality as “gentle, mellow, and so sweet.” A current update on the shelter’s website shows Venus is still waiting for a home to call her own. We hope she finds her perfect family soon. For more information about Venus, you can email the shelter at [email protected] or by calling (864) 260-4151.

Johnathan’s efforts to feature pups in need have already made a difference and changed many dogs’ lives. In 2023 alone he was able to help local shelters find homes for more than 30 dogs. He hopes to get even more dogs fostered and adopted in 2024.
