Dog Chained Up for 6 Years With Broken Leg Amazes Rescuers With Her Progress

Sadie, a six-year-old dog, has spent her entire life in harsh conditions. Chained outside around the clock, she was denied basic needs like food, shelter, and medical care.

When she was just 12 weeks old, she was struck by a car, suffering a broken leg that was never treated. Since then, Sadie endured constant pain, confined outdoors without the care every animal deserves. (Watch Video Below)

A New Dawn

Sadie was eventually surrendered to the Forgotten, Now Family Rescue in Charlotte, NC, and her owner charged with animal cruelty. Once in the rescue’s care, she underwent a thorough medical examination, which sadly, uncovered the extent of Sadie’s prolonged suffering.

On top of having matted fur, Sadie suffered from severe skin irritation, ear infections, decayed teeth, and was heartworm positive. The rescue also discovered that she was used as a breeding machine. Despite these heartbreaking news, the rescue was determined to help her rise above his trauma and health challenges.

In Safe Hands

The rescue ensured Sadie received the necessary treatment and care she needed to regain her health. They also had no choice but to amputate her leg to save her from further suffering and improve her quality of life. Thankfully, the rescue was able to find a foster home for Sadie, a breakthrough that’s contributed greatly to her healing journey so far.

@acrewofrescues We have been fostering Sadie for a few weeks now and she has defied any doubts we could have ever had about her. Up until @forgotten_now_family_rescue took her in, she was neglected in so many more ways other than being left on a chain with a broken leg her entire life. She was covered in mattes, had ear infections, left with her heartworms untreated, and clearly never shown love. But this girl has done nothing but thrive since she was finally shown just that – love. She is navigating three legs gracefully, she is an absolute doll to all humans, and despite going her whole life without proper interaction with other dogs, she respects and coexists wonderfully with our pack. Seeing her start to play with toys and have moments of *cheekiness* have been a joy to watch and even though she’s an old soul, she’s got the most playful spirit. Sadie is the epitome of why we foster. She has never been given the chance for her personality to shine until now. She finally gets to see what life has to offer her and if eyes could speak, hers say thank you x 1000. And although many things in life are not guaranteed, we know one thing is – Sadie will only know love for the rest of her days. She will be the best family member to anyone lucky enough to have her. #rescue #rescuedog #foster #adoptdontshop #adoptme ♬ original sound – Noah Kahan

Life in a Loving Foster Home

Currently, Sadie is thriving in her new foster home where she’s discovered that she’s worthy of love; the kind of love she never experienced for six good years. Even though her foster mom — who’s on TikTok as @acrewofrescue — has other foster dogs under her care, she’s still committed to giving sweet Sadie the best possible life.

Sadie’s progress from an utterly defeated pup to a joyful dog full of life has defied all the expectations that her foster had. Bearing in mind the level of cruelty that Sadie endured, her foster didn’t think she’d embrace her new chapter of life with enthusiasm as fast as she did. She’s quick to accept and reciprocate any gesture of affection from her foster, and it’s obvious that her wish of finally feeling loved has come true.

Sadie has also formed a tight friendship with the other dogs in her foster home; she’s found the best playmates she could ever ask for. There’s no doubt that Sadie’s endearing nature will soon land her an adoptive home. Her miraculous progress serves as a reminder of the impact that fostering has on dogs granted a second chance at life.

“By opening our hearts and homes to foster dogs, we become a crucial part of their transformation, helping them find their way to a brighter future and a forever home filled with love and care,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
