‘Baby Yoda’ Dog Surprises Shelter Staff with Age Revelation!
Southern California – In a heartfelt and urgent appeal from the heart of Animal Friends of the Valleys, Rocky Kanaka, renowned pet rescue advocate and YouTuber, is on a mission to find loving homes for over 140 shelter pets. Sitting among the kennels, Rocky introduced viewers to a special group of dogs, sharing their touching stories and making a powerful case for adoption.
One little Pekingese stole the spotlight with her unique appearance. “This little one right here is Pekingese,” Rocky said, holding the tiny dog close. “Look at this little one. Can you see they’re getting in my treats in my pocket back there?”
This Pekingese, who Rocky initially mistook for a senior dog due to her appearance, turned out to be just seven months old. “She’s seven months old. I would’ve guessed she was a senior,” he exclaimed, highlighting the puppy’s surprising backstory. “She looks a lot like Yoda, but what kind of name is that for a young lady?”
The Heartbreaking Backstory
Rocky shared his concern about the rumors surrounding the dog’s surrender. “I had a situation like this before, where a family turned the dog in and they said, ‘we don’t want that dog because they’re ugly.’ And I’m hoping that’s not the case here.” He described the dog’s condition, noting her hairlessness, ticks and open sores, speculating it might be breed-specific or related to her past care.
As the story unfolded, it was revealed that this dog, along with her three siblings, was left at the shelter after their owners passed away. “So I found out for all four of these gals that they all came from the same home. The reason they’re here is sadly their owners passed away,” Rocky explained. A neighbor had been caring for them until animal control stepped in.
Naming the Dogs
In a bid to give these dogs a sense of identity and make their adoption appeal stronger, Rocky, Kelly and Alexis decided to name them. The Pekingese, who was initially thought to be a senior, was affectionately named “Cocoa.” Her siblings were also given names reflecting their unique personalities and appearances. “We have Gizmo, Mocha, and Blondie,” Rocky announced. “These names not only help us connect with them better but also make it easier for their future families to bond with them.”

Rocky’s compassion was evident as he interacted with the dogs, urging viewers to consider adoption. “They are at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Southern California. The good news is we are doing empty the shelters all week.
