13-Year-Old Dog Abandoned in Crate Was Rescued Just in Time
It’s heartbreaking to imagine someone abandoning a 13 year old dog. Yet, Boz found himself discarded like a piece of trash at the side of a factory. Who would abandon a loyal companion? It’s a question that haunts many animal lovers.
Just left in a crate, Boz’s fate seemed uncertain. No one knows how long he was there, but as luck would have it, an observant animal control officer discovered him and quickly whisked him away to the safety of Edison Animal Shelter, in Edison, NJ. While the shelter provided a temporary refuge, it was not where a small senior dog should be.
The people who dumped Boz did not even bother to leave any information with him, not even a name.
Enter Animal Rescue Force, a beacon of hope for animals in distress. Recognizing Boz’s potential and the love he had to offer, they took him under their wing. With their support, Boz was no longer at risk for euthanasia.
One of the first steps in Boz’s rehabilitation was addressing his physical health.
- Boz had never been neutered! His previous owners had not even done the most basic of things.
- His once matted fur was given a thorough grooming. But that wasn’t all.
- Boz’s dental health had been neglected for years, causing him discomfort. Thanks to the dedicated team at Animal Rescue Force he underwent dental work.
As Boz settled into his new life, his caregivers noticed something unique about him. Despite his age, Boz exuded a youthful energy. His tail was always wagging, a testament to his cheerful disposition. And while he bore the physical characteristics of a Shih Tzu, there was a hint of Maltese in him, adding to his charm.
Boz’s friendly nature wasn’t just reserved for humans. He got along wonderfully with other dogs, showcasing his sociable personality. His adaptability was further evident in how quickly he took to crate training. And with a bit of patience and love, he was on his way to being house-trained as well.
However, life had one more challenge in store for Boz. Recently, he developed a golf ball-sized cyst on his head. Under the care of his dedicated team, he began a regimen of antibiotics to address the issue.
Boz’s story is a testament to the resilience of the canine spirit. Abandoned and neglected, he could have easily given up. But with a little help, he proved that it’s never too late for a second chance.
In sharing Boz’s journey, we are reminded of the importance of compassion and the difference we can make in the lives of animals. Every pet deserves love, care, and a place to call home. And for Boz, thanks to the unwavering support of Animal Rescue Force, Inc., his golden years promise to be filled with joy, companionship, and endless tail wags.
So, the next time you come across a wagging tail or a pair of hopeful eyes, remember Boz’s story. It’s a reminder that with a little love and care, every animal can find its way back to happiness.
UPDATE TO BOZ’S STORY 10/11/23– We were informed that Boz had surgery to remove the cyst on his head. Unfortunately it was malignant and had spread all through his brain causing seizures, so at the age of 13, the decision was made to put him to sleep. Rest in peace sweet Boz.
