Find Your Perfect Match: 10 Dogs Available for Adoption This Week
If you’ve been thinking about adopting a dog, this week could be the perfect time to make it happen. Right now, shelters and rescues are filled with incredible dogs ready to go home. Some have been waiting days, others much longer.
Each one has a unique personality, from playful and energetic to calm and cuddly, but they all share one thing: they just want a family to love. In this list, you’ll meet dogs you can adopt this week: real, available pups who are ready to leave the shelter behind and start their next chapter with you.
1. Gretel: Loyal & Well-Behaved Basset Hound
Gretel’s story didn’t start this way. Adopted as a puppy, she grew up in a home of her own—but after a recent misunderstanding with a small child, this gentle soul has found herself back in search of a fresh start. Now at 6 years old, Gretel is hoping for a calmer, adult-only home where she can finally settle in for good.
Born on February 20, 2020, this Basset mix has truly mastered the art of being the perfect house companion. She’s a professional lounger, happiest curled up on the couch, quietly keeping you company. Fully potty trained and well-mannered indoors, Gretel makes everyday living easy—no chaos, no fuss, just steady, loyal companionship. Learn More
2. Wilbur: 6-year-old Sweet & Affectionate Pomeranian
Wilbur isn’t just a Pomeranian—he’s a little survivor with a huge heart. At 6 years old and just 9 pounds, he was born with significant congenital conditions that affect his back legs and chest. His back legs are twisted, so he adapts in his own incredible way—sometimes walking on all fours, sometimes on three, and sometimes even using a playful “handstand” style to get where he wants to go.
His chest and trachea are also not formed typically, which can cause breathing challenges and a bluish tint to his tongue at times. With a daily oral bronchodilator every 12 hours, Wilbur has greatly improved energy and quality of life—and he continues to thrive in his own unique way. Learn More
3. Tom Tom: Gentle Cuddle Bug
Hi there, I’m Tom Tom—and I’m the kind of dog who doesn’t rush into friendships. When we first meet, I might hang back a little and quietly take everything in. I just need a bit of time, patience, and kindness to feel safe. But once I understand you’re one of the good ones, something beautiful happens: I open up completely and become your most devoted little companion.
And when I do trust you? I’m all in. I turn into a total lovebug—leaning in for pets, soaking up cuddles, and happily giving sweet kisses like it’s my full-time job. I love being close to my person, whether we’re relaxing together or heading out for a walk. I’m also playful at heart and never say no to a good game of fetch, especially if a squeaky toy is involved. Learn More
4. Alfie: 5-year-old Miniature Husky
Just weeks ago, Alfie’s story was nearly cut short. The 5-year-old miniature Husky was on the euthanasia list when a small network of rescuers refused to let his life end there. In a last-minute effort, foster Kristine in Lake Stevens shared his story, and Lesa stepped in to help coordinate his rescue. With quick action—and a transport effort that moved multiple dogs from Lacey to Arlington—Alfie was saved just in time.
After everything he’s been through, Alfie is finally safe, loved, and learning what it means to simply be a dog again. Learn More
5. Major: 2-year-old Basset Hound Mix
Major is an almost 2-year-old Basset Hound x Pembroke Welsh Corgi mix with a gentle heart, playful spirit, and an easygoing love for life. Originally surrendered when his previous home no longer had time for him, Major wasn’t given up because of behavior issues—just circumstance. Now, he’s looking for a family who can give him the time, attention, and consistency he truly thrives with.
Despite the change in his life, Major has remained friendly, affectionate, and eager to connect with everyone he meets. Learn More
6. Melany: 3-year-old Cheerful Boxer
Melany is a 3-year-old Boxer mix weighing about 50 pounds, and her story is one of resilience, second chances, and a whole lot of heart. Once at risk on the euthanasia list at BARC, she was rescued alongside her friend Beatrice—and today, she’s thriving as a cheerful, people-loving girl who is ready for a forever home.
From the moment she meets someone new, Melany brings a warm, easygoing energy. She enjoys being around people and has a friendly, social nature that makes her a joy to be around. She also does well in the car, handling rides with confidence and ease. Learn More
7. Chester: Gentle & Shy Puppy
Chester is a 7-month-old Whoodle who is just beginning to understand what life in a real home feels like. His early months were spent in a breeder kennel with very little handling or socialization, so everything—from people to everyday household sounds—is still new and sometimes overwhelming. At around 30 pounds, he’s a quiet, gentle puppy who is slowly learning that the world doesn’t have to be scary.
In his foster environment, Chester doesn’t rush in. Instead, he observes first, taking in his surroundings from a safe distance before gradually settling into calm routines. With consistency and patience, he begins to relax—and those small moments of comfort are where his progress shines. Learn More
8. Paprika: 4-year-old Loyal Mini Aussie-Collie Mix
Paprika is a 4-year-old Miniature Australian Shepherd/Collie mix who is ready to find a home where she can truly bond with her person. Confident in her preferences and clear about her comfort zone, she’s looking for a calm, committed adult who will be her closest companion and best friend.
While Paprika can tolerate the presence of other dogs and children at a distance, she is not looking to share her home full-time. She thrives best as the only pet, where she can fully relax and focus on her human without competition or distractions. Learn More
9. Winnie: 2-year-old Gentle Great Pyrenees
Winnie is a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees whose beauty is the first thing you notice—but her gentle spirit is what makes her unforgettable. Wrapped in a cloud-like coat of snow-white fluff and accented by striking gemstone eyes, she carries a calm, almost soothing presence that seems to soften every space she enters. Whether she’s lounging like royalty in a sunbeam or quietly observing the world around her, Winnie has a peaceful, steady magic about her.
But don’t let her serene look fool you—Winnie also has a playful side that shines through in the most charming ways. During a recent photoshoot, instead of posing like a model, she was far more interested in playing ball, happily turning the session into a lighthearted game. It’s that blend of elegance and silliness that makes her so easy to adore. Learn More
10. Hank: Energetic People-Lover Goldendoodle
Hank is the kind of dog rescue teams don’t take lightly—and they’re being very upfront about it.
Currently fostered at Dreamweaver Farm in Pacolet, SC, Hank is a 48-lb, 24-inch-tall young dog with presence, personality, and a history that requires the right kind of experienced home. He is neutered, highly active, and offered with an adoption fee of just $1 (donations gratefully accepted), because finding the right match matters far more than price. Learn More
