Wounded German Shepherd Abandoned in Freezing Temps Still Trusts Humans With Her Life
A Detroit-based animal rescue, Rebel Dogs Detroit, was sent a devastating video by local police: a German Shepherd puppy, less than a year old, was found outside in freezing temperatures with a gunshot wound to her leg. The snow fell around her as she sat in a yard, her injured leg dangling helplessly. (Watch the video below)
Moved by the sight of the puppy’s unimaginable suffering, the rescue team sprang into action. When they arrived at the scene, they found the young dog to be incredibly gentle, allowing them to approach, secure her, and take her to safety without making a sound.

Puppy Rushed To the ER
The rescue team rushed the injured German Shepherd, now named Ash, to the ER at Wilson’s Veterinary Hospital. X-rays revealed the bullet’s impact, shattering her leg, while the wound had become severely infected. Despite her critical condition, Rebel Dogs Detroit remains unwavering in its determination to save her, no matter the cost.

Now safe at the hospital, Ash has won over the ER staff with her incredibly sweet and trusting temperament.
According to the medical team, two challenging options lie ahead for her treatment. The first is amputation, which would eliminate the risk of further complications from infection. The second option is an attempt to save her leg, a procedure that comes with significant risks of infection and complexities related to the hardware required for the repair.

Rescue Is In Need of Donations
Whichever course of action the rescue and hospital staff decide for Ash, it will be neither easy nor inexpensive. Rebel Dogs Detroit cannot save this sweet and resilient girl without public support. Donations are urgently needed to continue her treatment and ensure her recovery.
In addition to medical care, Ash will need a loving foster home where she can safely heal and recover after being discharged from the hospital.

You can help Ash in two ways: by donating to fund her treatment or by opening your home to foster this wonderful dog who deserves a chance at a better life.
Pet Rescue Advocate Rocky Kanaka says, “This is a heartbreaking reminder of how resilient and forgiving dogs can be, even after enduring unimaginable pain. Ash’s sweet and trusting nature, despite her trauma, shows the power of hope and love. She deserves every chance to heal, and together we can help her get the future she was meant to have.”
