These 9 Purebred German Shepherds Are Ready for Adoption
Are you searching for a loyal companion who will protect and love you unconditionally? Meet these 9 incredible German Shepherds waiting for their forever homes. Renowned for their loyalty, intelligence, and versatility, German Shepherds (GSDs) are one of the most popular dog breeds worldwide.
If you lead an active lifestyle and have experience with working dogs, a German Shepherd could be the perfect addition to your family. Whether you’re drawn to playful 1-year-olds or affectionate seniors, there’s a charming GSD here ready to be your ideal match.
1. Howard: 3-year-old Mama GSD
Howard was born about December 18, 2021 and he will likely top out about 85 lbs. He appears to be and is said to be purebred from a breeder in PA named Bonnie Lee who is easily found on Facebook. Howard is here along with three other dogs as a local, young, single mom has left an abusive relationship and is on a mission to keep her kids and herself safe and it was just that much more difficult with four dogs as I feel most of us can imagine.
When Howard arrived here he was rather protective of his human who was turning all the dogs over to us which was very stressful for everyone involved. After a few hours, he decided the new humans in his life weren’t too bad and he’s been very good with everyone he’s met. So, we want to be sure any potential adopter knows that he does have a normal GSD protective side and this breed of dog is not for everyone. Howard is said to be better with women than men as his puppyhood was spent with a verbally abusive man. Learn More
2. Kevin: 2-year-old Loving Dog
Overwhelmed by a surge in homeless pets, the shelter where Kevin was housed struggled to showcase his potential. The noisy, chaotic atmosphere left Kevin stressed, making it difficult for visitors to see his true personality. Facing overcrowding and the grim possibility of euthanasia, volunteers acted quickly, reaching out to Joyful Rescues for help.
When Kevin arrived at the rescue, the transformation was immediate. Within days, this gentle and well-mannered dog revealed his loving nature. He adores people, walks well on a leash, and has a knack for getting along with dogs of all sizes. Even his playful antics, like plucking a light from an artificial Christmas tree, only add to his charm. Learn More
3. August: 1-year-old Cuddly Lovebug
August was found as a stray in Shelby, NC, abandoned and starving. After being taken in, she has been given a safe space to recover, gain weight, and socialize. Her medical needs, including spaying, are now up-to-date. August is crate trained, housebroken, and has blossomed into a happy, healthy dog. Despite her love for her current foster’s other dogs and her affectionate nature, she needs a new home due to tensions with an older alpha dog in the household.
August is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves to cuddle. She is playful with other dogs and shows a gentle demeanor towards cats, albeit with a bit too much interest. She can be shy and reactive when meeting new people or animals, displaying a strong bark initially, but warms up quickly with patience and treats. Her new family will need to continue training to manage her reactive behaviors and ensure she can thrive in a loving environment. Learn More

9. Roofus: Young & Adorable GSD
Roofus is a 1.5-year-old male German Shepherd who, as friendly as he is, unfortunately suffered a rough past. Animal Control was called to a scene where Roofus was found lying down on the side of a busy street, barely responsive by Sergeant Ponder. Originally, they thought that he was hit by a car. However, when he was taken as an emergency to the vet they noted that his pupils were extremely dilated, he was not able to walk, and they observed no physical injuries meaning the dog was drugged or poisoned. With no known owner, he arrived at the shelter and the health check team worked to keep fluids going to him and tried their best to help keep him stable, as everybody held their breath on whether or not he would make it. He even went agonal at one point, noted the Sergeant.
First days at the shelter were rough – he didn’t even use the bathroom on his own could only eat food and couldn’t respond to sensations. Then, over the next few days, he started to try to lift his head, and then wobbly walked in short bursts, and then finally used the bathroom. Now, Roofus acts as if nothing happened to him, even though there is still little evidence at this time that he is a bit sluggish, thanks to the team at AFV. Rocky sits in with Roofus not only to bring him much-needed comfort from the tough path he led so far, but also to share a much-deserved Thanksgiving meal. Learn More
