Tess couldn’t just leave the dog and decided to help her in whatever way possible. But after everything she had gone through, the dog couldn’t just trust a stranger. She was hesitant at first, but her desperate desire to be safe won over her fear, and she let herself be carried by Tess and her friend to their car.
A Heart-Breaking Discovery
After bringing the dog home and giving her the safety she so desperately needed, Tess wasn’t sure what to do next. She began posting on Facebook and other social media platforms, and even visited local shelters, hoping to find the dog’s owners.
What she discovered broke her heart. A local resident told Tess that the dog had been abandoned on the highway by her owners after they failed to give her away.
Tess was stunned. She couldn’t fathom how anyone could leave such a gentle, loving dog alone in the pouring rain, dangerously close to traffic. That’s when she made a decision—she would keep the sweet girl. Her daughter gave her a fitting name: Lucky.
Learning To Live Again
Today, Lucky is finally living the life she deserves, surrounded by a family who loves her like one of their own. She spends her days playing with her Golden Retriever brother and soaking up affection. But while her future looks bright, she’s still healing from the trauma of her past.
One of her biggest challenges is learning to feel safe in a car again—it reminds her of the last time she saw the family who abandoned her. She’s also still adjusting to life inside a home, working on house training, and figuring out how to enjoy the playful companionship of her new family.
Despite it all, Tess calls her “the sweetest dog,” adding, “I’m so happy she’s ours.”
To help Lucky get the care she needs, Tess launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover her medical expenses. She noticed Lucky frequently licking and favoring one of her feet, and suspects it could be due to an old injury. The fundraiser will help pay for an X-ray, as well as her vaccinations and upcoming spay surgery. You can donate to help the rescue dog get the proper medical attention.
