Watch This Sweet Abandoned Puppy’s Heartwarming Reaction When She’s Rescued After Being Dumped in the Bushes
When a Texas mom brought her kid to school one hot morning in late August 2024, she didn’t expect to have a passenger accompanying her on the drive home. An experienced foster to countless adoptable dogs, this mom spotted something in a ditch on the side of the road—it was a puppy!
Thinking quickly, this Texas mom hopped out of her car and coaxed the little puppy out of the tree line, through the tall grass, and right to her at the edge of the road. The puppy was clearly nervous, but her little wagging tail gave away her sweet personality right away. When she finally reached her rescuer, the puppy rolled onto her side and accepted some gentle pets.
To get the puppy out of the heat and to safety, the quick-thinking mom got her into the car and headed home to her own pack of dogs and fosters. She named the puppy Maddie and started the process of getting her checked out by a vet and ready to be adopted.
@streetheartstx I was taking my kid to school when I saw a dog in the ditch. She looked hot and I was worried she was hurt. She took a little coaxing but eventually came cowering over. She is just a pup and the sweetest thing! Looks like she got hung up on a fence and sliced her arm open. We grabbed an appointment for tomorrow. We are calling her Maddie 🤍

Warming Up & Getting Medical Care—Maddie Is Safe
Hot from the Texas sun and lack of water, Maddie needed some TLC urgently. Her rescuer brought her home, and let her take her time getting out of the car, walking through the yard, and getting into the house. Maddie had been through a lot, and although she was in fairly good spirits, she had a wound in her armpit, needed a few good meals, and had obviously not spent much time indoors since going into her rescuer’s house made her very nervous.
The next day, Maddie visited the vet where they estimated that she is around 6–10 months old and weighs about 26 pounds. Maddie did not have a microchip and was covered in flea dirt so she was given flea and tick treatment. Luckily, Maddie tested negative for heartworm but positive for hookworm and will be getting treated for that.
The gash under Maddie’s armpit looks like she might have gotten caught on a fence, but there’s no way to know for sure what happened. For now, her rescuer will be keeping it clean, applying soothing ointment, and giving her antibiotics to prevent infection. Hopefully, the wound will heal on its own, but the vet plans to re-evaluate when Maddie gets spayed.
Back at her rescuer’s home, Maddie has been enjoying sneaking onto the couch, eating lots of treats, and making friends with the other dogs and cats in the home.

How To Adopt Maddie
“As much as we’d love to keep Maddie, we can only be her foster home,” says the amazing foster mom who rescued Maddie. “We have multiple dogs already and we want to be able to help the next one in need because in our area, there is always a next one. Maddie is the 38th foster dog this year alone.”
Once Maddie has had some time to recover and heal, she will be available for adoption through Paddy’s Paws in Wisconsin.
