Abandoned Dog’s Soul-Crushing Sadness After Owners’ Divorce Will Leave You in Tears
Much is said about the devastating effects of divorce on a family—impacting children, adult relatives, and, of course, the couple involved. However, one often overlooked consequence is the fate of the family dog, which can sometimes lead to a heartbreaking decision.
When a marriage ends, families with dogs face an additional challenge: deciding who will keep the pet. While some couples manage to reach an amicable agreement, others may struggle to find common ground, sometimes resulting in the difficult choice of surrendering their beloved dog to a shelter.
Oliver, a 6-year-old Pit Bull Terrier, is the latest canine victim of the ripple effects of divorce. This gentle giant was recently surrendered to the Humane Society of Broward County after his owners separated, and the realization that he no longer has a loving family to call his own is taking a mighty toll on him. The Struggle Is Real
Since coming to the shelter, Oliver hasn’t been doing very well. Staff say he’s overcome with sadness, which makes him hide at the back of his kennel most of the time. Oliver is struggling to get used to the strange, lonely kennel life, and worse, without the presence of people he considered family.
Despite how emotionally wrecked he is, though, he still tries to show affection to anyone who visits him in his kennel. Plus, Oliver is lucky to have an amazing support system during this time. Staff at the shelter are constantly checking on him and showing him extra love and attention as he nurses a broken heart. They’re also well aware that the shelter environment isn’t doing Oliver any good, which is why they won’t stop searching until they find the right home for him.
The longer this sweet boy stays locked up in his kennel, the more he’ll continue drowning in sorrow and hopelessness, which is already too much for a pup that’s already lost the only home he knew.
