Watch This Service Dog Detect Boy’s Low Blood Sugar Faster Than Technology

If we were asked to describe service dogs in a few words, we’d say that they’re exceptional superheroes wrapped in fur. That’s because the work they do is far more impactful than what the average person can do. Service dogs are life-changing companions who’ll take no chances to save the lives of the humans who depend on them.

Take diabetic alert service dogs, for instance. These incredible pups rely on their noses to pick up any slight changes in a person’s blood sugar levels, and many times, do so with astounding accuracy. Ducky, a well-trained diabetes alert service dog, is a good example. (Watch Video Below)

This gorgeous Cocker Spaniel is more than a beloved companion for his family. Sweet Ducky is a lifeline for the family’s little boy, Wells, who suffers from Type 1 Diabetes. Ducky’s sole mission? To monitor Wells’ blood sugar and raise a timely alert when it drops or spikes.

Recently, Ducky left the internet speechless after detecting Wells’ low blood sugar levels faster & with more accuracy than a technological device. If you’ve ever doubted that perfect service dogs exist, then Ducky’s video is a must-watch.

A Furry Savior

The interesting bit about Ducky’s role as a trained diabetic alert dog is that he doesn’t need to be in the same room as Wells to sniff out changes to his blood sugar levels. Ducky can still sense something is wrong even when he and Wells are in a different part of the house.

The video, posted by Wells’ mom @typeonederfulwells, captures the moment Ducky sensed his little friend’s blood sugar was off. It all happened as Ducky was chilling outside with his mom on the porch while Wells played inside the house. The clip shows Ducky nudging his mom persistently before rushing to the closed door with an alarming sense of urgency. Ducky’s mom couldn’t ignore her sweet pup’s sudden restlessness. She knew Ducky was trying to communicate something important about her son.

“While sitting on the back porch with me, my son’s service dog started whining and getting restless….which is crazy because this huge glass door is closed and his boy is on the other side of the house. But one thing about this dog is that he’s NEVER wrong,” Ducky’s mom explained in the now-viral video.

As soon as the door swings open, Ducky is seen running straight to where Wells is, as the mom quickly follows with a testing kit in hand. What’s more surprising is that Wells is wearing a smartwatch blood glucose monitor, but the readings on the watch indicate everything’s normal. Still, the mom carries on with a manual blood glucose test as Ducky observes keenly.

The results came back seconds later, & they confirmed one thing: Ducky was right all along. Wells’ blood sugar levels had indeed dropped below the normal range, despite the smartwatch monitor saying otherwise. Ducky had sensed it long before the gadget could record a change in Wells’ blood sugar levels.

Ducky’s small yet powerful nose had detected a shift in Wells’ blood sugar levels from outside the house. This only proves that sometimes, a dog’s nose & instincts can outsmart the latest blood sugar detection gadget. And that’s what makes service dogs like Ducky extra special.

“I’m always in disbelief when he does something this incredible. Not sure how we ever lived without our Ducky,” the grateful mom captioned on the video.

Ducky Earns Endless Praise Online

So far, Ducky’s video has racked up over two million views, with thousands showering him with praises in the comments section.

“Ducky is truly a hero,” one person wrote.

“Dogs are amazing. But service dogs? There’s just no words,” another added.

“What an absolute angel,” a third person commented.
