URGENT: Blind Senior Dog Kruz Faces Euthanasia by August 11 Without an Adopter
KAHULUI, HI — Time is running out for Kruz, an 8-year-old blind dog at the Maui Humane Society who is rapidly declining in the shelter environment. If no adopter steps forward by Friday, August 11, Kruz will be humanely euthanized. You don’t have to be in Hawaii to adopt Kruz. MHS will provide assistance to off Island adopters.

Kruz’s condition has worsened since returning from a foster home—he’s barking, flipping his water bowl, and exhibiting signs of extreme stress, especially around other dogs. While not aggressive, his escalating behaviors are making daily handling unsafe and unsustainable in a shelter setting.

Kruz originally came from a home with 20 other dogs, many of whom were undersocialized and in poor condition. Despite his tough start, Kruz has proven to be a gentle, loyal companion in the right environment. In foster care, he was mellow, affectionate, and eager to please—especially when treats were involved.

“He’s like an old-school gentleman,” one caregiver said. “He may be blind, but he follows voices like a pro and keeps to his routine like clockwork.”
What Kruz Needs
- 🏡 A quiet, adult-only or mature home where he can feel safe and secure
- 🐶 Either a solo-dog household or one with calm dog friends—he’s done well with both
- 💙 A consistent routine and a compassionate, experienced adopter
- 🎓 Free training support through GoodPup, available to both local and off-island adopters
Kruz is a 53-pound tan mixed-breed with a whole lot of love left to give. He may not see the world around him, but he deserves the chance to be part of one.
