This Dog’s Family Moved & Left Her Behind—Now She’s Spent a Year Waiting for a 2nd Chance
For seven good years, Tia — a senior mixed breed — knew what “home” felt like. She had a cozy bed to curl in every night, woke up to gentle neck scratches each morning, and had loving humans that she could follow from room to room like the devoted girl that she is.
@hsnaples After nearly 7 years in a home, 8-year-old Tia was returned through no fault of her own when her family moved and couldn’t take her with them. She’s now been waiting at our shelter for almost a year to find her perfect match. Tia is a gentle giant who loves people but does best with a slow, gentle introduction. Once she trusts you (which happens fast—especially if you talk to her in a baby voice! 😉), she becomes a social butterfly who adores attention. Tia loves to play “chase me” and still has some zoomies left in her! She walks beautifully on a leash and always keeps her space clean. Tia knows commands like sit, wait, down, and come, and she gives the best paw! She enjoys playing with stuffed toys, chewing on hard toys, and lounging on soft beds and couches. Tia is house-trained and was reported to be well-behaved in her previous home—never chewing or misbehaving inside. She’s been waiting too long. Could you be the one to give her the love she deserves? ❤️ If you’re not able to adopt Tia, consider fostering her to give her a much-needed break from the shelter environment. Tia had it all. She loved her family deeply, so much so that she couldn’t imagine growing old anywhere other than in the only home she knew. Unfortunately for Tia, fate had other plans — her family had to move but couldn’t bring her along. That’s how Tia went from being a beloved family dog to a shelter resident at the Humane Society Naples.
What’s even sadder is that Tia is almost clocking one year at the shelter. Tia’s now eight years old, and even though she’s the most amazing senior pup to be around, she’s still without a home.
A Life She Never Dreamt Of
Tia never imagined that at eight years old, she’d be spending her days and nights at a place where the floors are non-carpeted and cold, where she can’t enjoy some peace and quiet because of constant barking noises. She never imagined not aging gracefully in the comforts of a warm, loving home.
Even though life didn’t turn out as she hoped, sweet Tia hasn’t allowed this to break her spirit. She still greets everyone around her with a radiant smile, leans into every gentle touch, and adores people. Tia has every reason to shut down, but no, she chooses not to dwell on everything she lost. She’s hopeful that there’s another family out there for her; one that will really mean it when they promise her “forever.”
Could You Give Tia a Forever Home?
Tia may be old, but she’s got a lot of life in her. Don’t believe us? Wait until you see her flexing her zoomies which she gets from time to time or how she runs with the enthusiasm of a puppy when you chase her. Tia’s gray muzzle doesn’t stop her from being silly.
Though Tia is a lover of people at heart, she likes to take things slow. But once she warms up to you, she’ll spend every minute reminding you that you mean the world to her. Tia already has a grasp of commands, is house-trained, well-behaved, and walks great on a leash. So, if you don’t have the capacity to deal with the naughtiness and consistent training demands that puppies and young adult dogs come with, then Tia’s the girl for you.
Tia’s desperately waiting for you to take her home. To adopt her, kindly visit the Humane Society Naples’s website for details on her adoption process.
