This Dog Was Left to Freeze—But What Happened Next Saved Two Lives
A small dog, later named Chevy, was discovered tied to a post at a busy intersection in freezing weather—abandoned in the cold with traffic rushing by. The heartbreaking scene sparked outrage among residents, as she was left completely exposed to the elements with no concern for her safety. (Watch Video Above)
When rescuers first approached Chevy, she was visibly scared and cowered at any attempts to touch her. Her hind legs showed signs of neglect, marked by sores that hinted at her previous hardships. Despite her initial fear, one rescuer, Missy, knew exactly who to call: Carrie, an experienced foster parent with a reputation for taking in dogs in need.

A Fateful Foster Turned Forever Home
Carrie recalls the moment her husband, Rob, showed her Chevy’s situation. Initially hesitant, she was touched by Rob’s insistence that they step in to help. What began as a temporary foster placement quickly evolved into something much more.
“When she first arrived, she was so scared,” Carrie shared. “All she wanted was to sit in my lap and be held. She didn’t know where she was or what was happening. For weeks, she slept on my chest.”

Chevy’s vulnerability struck a chord not just with Carrie but also with her family’s dog, Sophia—a typically guarded dog who rarely welcomed newcomers.
An Unexpected Bond
Sophia, who usually preferred to sleep pressed against Carrie, made room for Chevy and soon became her protector. When Chevy underwent surgery to be spayed, Sophia stayed by her side, offering comfort and ensuring she felt safe. This mutual support transformed both dogs.

“Sophia was so worried about her after the surgery,” Carrie said. “She laid right by her, putting her head on Chevy to protect her. It was incredible to watch.”
The companionship worked both ways. While Sophia helped Chevy build confidence, Chevy also played a crucial role in reducing Sophia’s own anxiety and fear.
“She’s scared of the world—men, noises, everything,” Carrie explained. “But Chevy has changed her. She’s like a completely different dog now. Chevy is like Sophia’s service animal, and Sophia is Chevy’s best friend.”
