This Dog Survived Wildfires and Flew Across the World—Now He’s Missing Just One Thing. A Home.
Lucas has already survived the unimaginable—but what he longs for most is still out of reach. In July 2023, he was pulled from the raging wildfires in Greece by a nonprofit organization called Dog’s Voice. Just a few months later, he boarded his freedom flight to Toronto, Canada, filled with hope for a fresh start. (Watch Video Above)
Since then, Lucas has experienced kindness in foster homes, but not yet the permanence of a forever family. Now, with the support of rescues in North America, this resilient Labrador Mix pup is daring to dream of love once again.
Lucas’ Road to Confidence and Joy

Lucas is a survivor in every sense of the word. Found alone after a devastating wildfire in Greece, he bore the marks of his struggle: burns, hunger, and heartbreak. But he never gave up. His unbreakable spirit earned him a ticket to safety, and just months later, he arrived in Toronto.
Since landing in his new country, Lucas has been in the care of several foster families. One devoted family looked after him for six months despite receiving no adoption interest, but eventually had to say goodbye. Then, on May 31, 2024, Lucas met Ernst, his new foster dad, who has been giving him not just care, but joy.
Now, Lucas shares his days with two furry foster brothers, Max and Jake, and lives for his daily trail adventures. He races through fields and creeks, tail high and heart lighter. Under Ernst’s care, Lucas has blossomed. He’s more confident, less reactive, and finally beginning to feel like he belongs.
All that’s missing now is a forever home.

This Sweet Boy Has Waited Long Enough for a Home
Lucas is a gentle soul with a heart full of love, and he’s ready to share it with the right family. In his current foster home, this sweet and sensitive pup has a favorite routine: hopping up on the couch and locking eyes with his human, silently requesting a round of well-earned pets.
And if the petting pauses? The smart doggo will gently nudge your hand, nestling underneath it as if to say, “I’m not done yet.”
He’s the kind of dog who will ask for love and return it tenfold. Great with kids and full of affection, Lucas would thrive in a home with a yard to explore and a family to adore. After two long years of waiting, Sandy Dogs Rescue and Cause4Paws are teaming up to help him find the forever home he so deeply deserves.
