A Burn Marked His Body, But Not His Spirit—See the Sad Reason This Labrador Still Hasn’t Found a Home
At the Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Loxahatchee, Florida, there’s one particular dog that stands out from the rest. Not because of his personality, but because of his unique looks. That dog is Buddy, a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever who effortlessly puts a smile on his rescuers’ faces despite his horrific past. (Watch his TikTok below)
You see, Buddy has a chemical burn mark on his back. And it isn’t a small mark. The burn mark runs from the top of his neck all the way down his back. In fact, it’s the first thing you’ll likely notice about Buddy when you meet him for the first time, given his all-black coat.
Although the rescue has no exact details of what exactly happened to Buddy, they know that life back in the Bahamas — where he was rescued — was extra cruel to him.

Beauty Beneath the Scars
The rescue suspects someone heartlessly poured chemical on poor Buddy’s back, and it’s heartbreaking to imagine the kind of pain he endured when this happened. He was also never fed enough, which is evident from his current low weight. Thankfully, Buddy received life-saving treatment for the burns and made a full recovery. The missing hair on his burn mark has yet to grow back, though.
Although Buddy doesn’t look like the average dog, his mark makes him uniquely beautiful. Staff at the shelter have also fallen in love with his wonderful personality, so it’s safe to say that Buddy is beautiful inside out. He has come a long way, and staff are amazed at how he loves on everyone despite all he’s been through. If resilience had a face, it sure would be Buddy’s.
Buddy Longs for a Forever Family
Buddy is at a point in life where he just wants to be part of a loving family that will love him for who he is.
In fact, the rescue describes Buddy’s ideal forever person as someone who will “look past his scars and see the loving dog underneath.” He has so much love to give and yearns to be in a home where he’ll never worry about ever being hurt again. Buddy’s a certified cuddler and loves to be the center of attention. Oh, and we have to add that he’d do well in a home with no cats.
