Shelter’s Longest Resident Has Watched his Friends All Get Adopted. After 9 Months this Pitbull Feels Invisible.
For some shelter dogs, their journey to finding the perfect forever home is as short as it can get. Unfortunately for others, this journey sometimes ends up being a long, winding one.

Sitting inside one of the kennels at Borders Tails Rescue in Northbrook, Illinois, is Roman, a 1-year-and-7-months-old Pit Bull Terrier Mix with a dreaded title to his name: Shelter’s Longest Resident. Roman arrived at the rescue nine months ago, hopeful that it wouldn’t take long before he catches the attention of a potential adopter. Sadly, this hasn’t happened.
Nine months later, Roman still wakes up to the sight of other dogs that came after him leaving the shelter with their new families, while he remains behind, wondering how much longer he has to wait.

A New Dog Outdoors
Roman — just like most dogs who’ve been at the shelter for a painfully long period — may seem like a disinterested, shy dog with no zest for life when in his kennel. However, this isn’t his real personality, as his true self has been overshadowed by the overwhelming kennel environment.
When spending time outdoors with the rescue’s volunteers, Roman is a whole different dog: lively, active, gentle, confident, and affectionate.
In other words, being away from the kennel brings out the best in Roman. It’s a pity he hasn’t found a home yet since there’s absolutely nothing faulty about him; those who overlook him miss out on knowing what an incredible dog he is.
“By adopting Roman, you will have a loyal companion who will enrich your life with joy and affection. You will also live with the satisfaction of knowing that you gave a happy ending to a deserving animal,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
Could You Be Roman’s Forever Best Friend?

Roman is counting on you to exit the shelter’s records as the longest resident. This handsome lad is ready to embark on exciting adventures with his new family and put behind him the feelings of solitude that he’s endured during these nine long months of waiting.
Once Roman warms up to you, you’ll not want to imagine not having him by your side. He has so much love, loyalty, and fun vibes to offer, and he deserves to be dishing out all these in a loving home environment.
If you would love to give Roman a chance to experience the warmth of a forever home, please visit Border Tail Rescue’s website for details on his adoption process.
