Puppy Returned to Shelter 3 Times —Why Can’t This Sweet Dog Find a Lasting Forever Home?
The internet is filled with touching stories of shelter dogs who’ve found their happily ever after in the form of loving forever homes. Unfortunately for some dogs, the idea of finally experiencing true happiness with a permanent family often seems like a far-fetched dream, and among these unlucky dogs is Sophia, an 8-month-old Pit Bull Mix.

Sophia is currently a resident at Solano County Animal Care, a reality she grapples to face every waking moment. Sweet Sophia just doesn’t understand why she’s back at the shelter for the third time now. And it’s not just her. Staff at the shelter are also having a hard time figuring out why Sophia, as young and amazing as she is, can’t seem to catch a break from the rejection.
@heartsforpawsrescue_ca We saw Sophia had just been returned to the shelter; she was a different dog this time. Defeated and down, the happy girl we played with last month had lost a little light in her eyes. Still barely more than a puppy — Sophia was adopted as a 2 month old from the shelter, returned this summer through no fault of her own, then had a short lived adoption this month. No she’s back. For a third time. Sophia is located at solano county animal care — 2510 clay bank road Fairfield California where she is back on the adoption floor and looking for a real forever this time!! If you can’t adopt or foster, please please SHARE sweet Sophia! Contact @solanoanimalcare or head down to the shelter to meet her 💗

‘No Fault of Her Own’
According to the shelter, Sophia was first adopted when she was two months old, only to be returned a few months later “at no fault of her own.” Shortly after, she was adopted again, but her happiness was short-lived when she found herself back at the shelter.
Sadly, this same script has unfolded for the third time, ripping her heart into pieces.
The once jovial, goofy pup that staff at the shelter used to see — even describing her as “one of their favorite dogs” — has become a shadow of her former self. Sophia spends most of her time soaking up the sadness of her situation. At this point, the only that can make her heartbroken eyes glimmer with newfound happiness is finding a forever person who won’t ever give up on her, no matter what.
“It broke my heart to think that Sophia, already so unsure about herself, was taken to a home only to be returned shortly after. At such a tender age, every experience shapes their personality and trust in humans,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
Could You Give Sophia a Chance?
Sophia, like every other puppy, deserves to be living a fun-filled life with people she calls her own. She should be out there enjoying puppyhood instead of sitting miserably in her kennel, wondering where she went wrong. The shelter describes her as a well-behaved puppy who knows basic commands, walks great on leash, and cherishes playtime with her toys.
Not to mention, Sophia’s friendly personality makes it easy for her to get along with other dogs. The only thing she’s asking for? That you never go back on your promise of giving her a lifetime of love.
