Shelter Dog With Disfigured Face Longs for Someone to Love His ‘Heart of Gold’

Looking different from everybody else should never be a bad thing. Unfortunately for shelter dogs, their appearance is often a major deciding factor for potential adopters visiting the shelter.

It’s common for shelter pups lacking picture-perfect looks to languish in their kennels longer than other “cuter” dogs, even though they have the most lovable personalities. A good example is Arnold — a 4-year-old American Bulldog Mix currently at the Humane Society of Broward County. (Watch Video Below)

Arnold isn’t your average dog. Unlike other shelter dogs who grab visitors’ attention with their perfect looks, Arnold draws attention because of his disfigured face.

Arnold’s facial disfigurement is mainly characterized by his crooked, misaligned upper lips, which push up his snout, exposing his front teeth. And when he greets you with his infectious smile, you’ll notice his tongue is split into two. While most potential adopters perceive him as ugly and walk quickly past his kennel, his disfigured face has won the hearts of shelter staff, who consider him beautiful inside out.

Arnold’s heart is pure gold, something that only those who make an effort to know him get to discover.

Different But Perfect in Every Way

Before coming to the shelter, Arnold was living as a stray. Although the exact backstory of how he ended up with a disfigured face remains known, the shelter says he suffered severe trauma to his face at a young age.

Beyond his differently built face, this lovely 40-pound pup is completely healthy. In fact, one can easily conclude that Arnold is so unbothered by his disfigured face owing to how he cheerfully greets everyone, not caring about those who judge his crooked smile.

His greatest desire right now is for someone to love him wholeheartedly for who he is and offer to adopt him because he, like other normal-looking shelter pups, deserves a loving forever home.

@humanebroward Please don’t be scared of me 🥺 I know I don’t look like other dogs… some will even say that I am ugly 😔 But I promise that I am beautiful on the inside and have a heart of gold 🙏 I’m 4-year-old Arnold and I’ve had a difficult start to my life 💔 As you can see, I suffered a terrible trauma to my face when I was younger. Sadly, I was found as a stray, so the reason for this trauma is unknown, but it has left my face disfigured and my tongue split in two 🥺 This doesn’t stop me from enjoying life, including all of the treats and hugs that you can give. In fact, I barely remember what happened and am a really outgoing fellow ❤️ I’m hoping a loving family will look past my appearance and see me for the sweet dog that I am 🙏 I can’t change the way I look or how people will see me, but don’t I still deserve to be loved? 🥺 If you can’t adopt me, please share my post 🙏 I can be adopted out-of-state and to Canada, but you have to make the arrangements to pick me up from South Florida ❤️ To meet Arnold or any other pet, please complete a pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com (link is in bio) and then stop by. The Humane Society of Broward County is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL and the adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m. If you have questions call 954-989-3977 ext. 6 ❤️ #rescuedog #shelterdog #adoptme #adoptdontshop #goodboy #dog #florida #dogvideos #tiktok #staffordshirebullterrier #americanbulldog #americanbully #fyp #dogs #dogoftheday #dogsoftiktok #dogshelter #staffylove #foryou #foryoupage #pittie #pittiesoftiktok #pittbull #bullybreed #pittielove #staffy #dogtok #staffylovers #bullylove #doglover #arnold ♬ original sound – Humane Society Broward County

Could You Be Arnold’s Forever Family?

Arnold is a super sweet, outgoing boy whose biggest weakness is wanting to hug anyone who interacts with him. His loving nature makes him ever eager to shower people with affection. Arnold’s cheerful disposition will fill your home with joy and laughter, and you won’t help but ponder how dull your life was before he came along.
