Severely Injured Bait Dog Survives To Finally Discover What Love Is. His Transformation Will Melt Your Heart.❤️
Marco is a Pitbull who was rescued by Stray Rescue of St. Louis in Missouri after being found chained to a fence with the hot sun beating down on him. He was used as a ‘bait dog’, a dog used by dog fighters to train their dogs for fights. He was covered in bite marks and gashes so severe that his face was swollen to three times its normal size. The neglected wounds had become septic, and it was apparent that he was starving. Marco was in an incredible amount of pain both mentally and physically.
After getting him to the clinic, it was clear that Marco needed food and rest. He began antibiotics immediately and a few days later, vets were able to drain and clean the wounds on his head, face, and legs. The swelling went down and the healing of his injuries and soul began. Rescuers shared, “It’s so good to see his true face.”
Marco’s Fight Wasn’t Over Yet
As the days went on, he started to feel better knowing that he was finally safe. Marco’s personality started shining through, and he was described as an easy-going dog who charmed everybody he met, “Our vet techs and veterinarians just love him!” The infection was going away and he seemed to be healing perfectly. “Things are finally looking up for this precious boy!”
Two weeks after he arrived at the clinic, Marco had a major setback. The swelling in his face came back and he had to have a “skin flap procedure on his arm”, and would also need a surgery on one leg. He was taken into surgery to have the abscesses cleaned and drains put in. “His face may still be swollen, but his upbeat attitude has not changed a bit.”
Marco Is Finally Medically Cleared to Go To a Foster Home
Marco fought hard the first month and a half of his new life, and although he had several medical setbacks, he never lost his happy spirit. When he was finally cleared to find a family to foster him, his rescuers shared, “This is one happy boy. He sure loves to make us smile!”
Just a couple of weeks later, he met his foster family and got to go to his new home. He was so excited to get into their car, and loved all of the attention and pets he was getting. He adjusted quickly, and his foster mom Katie gushed, “Marco’s first night and morning has been a success. He takes his medicine like a perfect angel, has a healthy appetite, and went potty outside. When I sit with him he wants to be as close as possible, even if that means sitting in my lap.”
She went on to say that they were looking forward to being able to take the cone off that he had to wear, although he didn’t complain about it at all. It was like Marco understood that he had been saved and appreciated the second chance at happiness.
Marco Finds His Forever Family
Marco spent almost two months with his foster family and spent his time healing, playing, and learning what love really was. His foster family adored him and reported that he was “Getting spoiled and he’s loving. every. second. of. it.”
Three and a half months after his initial rescue, Marco was adopted by his forever family. His rescuers were so excited to make the big announcement and share an update on his medical progress, “His leg is almost fully healed but still requires some bandage changes. He had a long, hard road to recovery but his amazing, loving attitude made him the best patient ever.” Although he still had a ways to go, it was clear that he loved his new family and his new life. He found his happily ever after, and it’s one that he truly deserved.
