Rescued from Neglect & Starvation, this Great Dane Is Ready to Give Love Another Try
Moose — a loveable Great Dane currently at The Great Dane Rescue and Rehab (SRGDRR) in Bullard, Texas — knows what it’s like to suffer in the hands of those he thought meant well for him. He’s also familiar with the bitter taste of betrayal by humans who promised him forever.
Back in November 2020 when he was still a puppy, he and his two brother siblings were confiscated by the Bell County Sherrif’s Office, a rescue that gave him hope for better days. Then, in April 2021, he found an adoptive home where he thought he’d be a part of forever, only for his owner to later re-home him — without the shelter’s knowledge.
Unfortunately, this betrayal marked the beginning of a fresh cycle of severe neglect, as Moose faced experiences that no dog deserves to go through.
An Unbearable Life
While under the care of his new owner, Moose spent his days and nights in solitude at an outdoor kennel. Besides missing out on the warmth of a real home, having reliable meals wasn’t a guarantee.
He was rescued nearly two years later — in November 2023 — in an emaciated state next to his deceased brother. Moose’s journey to healing began when he was brought to SRGDRR, where he’s proven to staff that some dogs can emerge from the treacherous waters of severe neglect and betrayal with their spirits unbroken. His resilience and willingness to trust humans again continue to inspire staff at the rescue. Now, Moose is only longing for this one thing: a forever kind of love.
Could You Be Moose’s Forever Person?
Moose’s life has turned out much better than expected. He’s in better shape physically, and the emotional wounds of his troubled past have faded away. According to the rescue, Moose is potty-trained, crate-trained, and progressing well in leash training.
Despite growing up without guaranteed meals, he does not exhibit resource-guarding behaviors around food. He enjoys the company of other dogs as much as he loves being close to his humans. Curious to know Moose’s hidden talent? Well, he’s a pro at grabbing kitchen towels from countertops without anyone watching and making them his toys.
Moose is ready to unleash his playful spirits and affectionate personality in his forever home. He wants to experience stability and care from a loving family that will not give up on him no matter what. In return, he’ll enrich your life in all ways possible.
“By opening your heart and home to Moose, you’ll not only give a deserving dog a second chance at life but also bring a lifetime of joy and love to your family,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
We just learned from the rescue that Moose is pending adoption, but there is some doubt whether it will go through so they welcome backup applications.
