Puppy Fights for Her Life After Living on the Streets. Now She Needs a Home
Every puppy deserves abundant love and the best possible care, but unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Mercy is a 4 month-old pup living in Texas who has already faced numerous challenges in her short life. She was surrendered by a homeless woman to the vet’s office, arriving as an extremely emaciated dog.
Mercy has clearly not received proper care, resulting in numerous health issues. The vet’s office contacted a local rescue who raised funds for the dog’s medical bills.

Dog Hospitalized For 19 Days
Suffering from a host of health problems, Mercy ended up at the hospital for 19 days. Meanwhile, the funds raised had run out and so the vet’s office tried to find a place for the dog to stay. They were looking for a medical foster and rescue to help provide the medical care she desperately needed.
Fortunately, a New Jersey-based rescue, Northstar Pet Rescue came to save the day. They decided to sponsor the entirety of Mercy’s medical bills. During her 19-day tenure at the hospital, the puppy was treated for giardia, anemia, parasites, and kidney issues, which were likely a result of the dog’s malnourished state.
Mercy currently weighs only 11 lbs and takes 5 medications, along with 100 ml of fluids twice every day. She has been slowly improving but still has a long way to go. The good news is that she is eating her meals and drinking water pretty well.
A Plea To Take Mercy Home–Can You Help?

Even though Mercy is healing physically, she is shut down mentally. What she needs is a loving and caring home where she can prosper and open up.
Mercy has not yet been spayed or vaccinated due to her extremely low body weight and kidney evaluation results. The rescue is waiting for her condition to improve before proceeding with these procedures.
Once her health becomes stable, Mercy will move to New Jersey, where the rescue is located, to start her adoption process. In the meantime, the rescue is welcoming applications for her adoption or fostering.
“Puppies like Mercy are just trying to figure out life as it is and looking for leadership and then they end up at an unknown place, it’s no surprise that this little dog is finding it difficult to open up emotionally.” said Pet Rescue Advocate Rocky Kanaka.
If you’re able, please consider welcoming her into your home and giving her a fresh chance at love and a better life. Go over to www.northstarpets.org to fill out an application for adoption.
