POV: You’re Shopping At California’s Cutest Dog Bakery with Your Pup!

Imagine it’s a beautiful sunny day, you’re out for a walk with your dog, and you stumble across a dog bakery. Dogs are—of course—welcome to come in, and you and your pup get to browse fresh-baked pastries made with dog-safe ingredients. You choose a few items to try at home, and let your pooch browse their selection of toys and treats. What a dreamy outing!

Erin K.—an influencer and vlogger who goes by @ilovesouplantation on TikTok—shared her experience visiting the Long Beach, California location of The Dog Bakery with her adorable little dog, Mochi. Erin picked out two treats for Mochi from the bakery case: a soft glazed PB and Yummy Bar and the super-cute all-new Animal Slider which looks like a tiny burger and is made with real meat!

“The treats were so adorable I wanted to eat them too!” says Erin K. in the caption of her TikTok video. Sadly, treats from a bakery for dogs probably wouldn’t taste too good to humans, but dogs go wild for these fresh-made goodies!

What Is a Dog Bakery?

When you visit a dog bakery, don’t expect to find your usual pastries for humans. Dog bakeries bake and sell treats just for dogs using canine-approved ingredients and recipes. Made without ingredients like chocolate, walnuts, or high-fat oils, dogs can safely eat baked goods from dog bakeries without worrying about hidden ingredients or an upset stomach.

Some dog bakeries take care to also use healthier alternatives to ingredients that are technically dog-safe, but not good for dogs. For example, many bakeries for dogs offer gluten-free baked goods made from rice flour, buckwheat flour, and other gluten-free starches. While you shouldn’t feed your dog large baked items every day, the occasional treat from a dog bakery is perfectly safe and healthy. Dog bakeries also sell small treats that are appropriate for daily eating.

What Can You Buy At a Bakery for Dogs?

Dog bakeries sell items that look a lot like pastries you’d find at a bakery for humans, but they’re a little different.

Instead of cupcakes, you can buy pupcakes or pawcakes with yogurt frosting instead of buttercream. Instead of finding chocolate chip cookies that would be toxic to dogs, you’ll find 100% chocolate-free and dog-safe carob chip cookies. If your dog prefers savory over sweet, you can also find meaty and peanut-buttery options at bakeries for dogs.

When you visit storefront dog bakeries you’ll usually also find other things to buy like toys, accessories, and packaged treats.

Where Can I Find Dog Bakeries Near Me?

The Dog Bakery has three California locations in L.A., Long Beach, and Old Pasadena—if you live nearby or are traveling to the area, stop in to browse their premium dog-safe baked goods and treats!

But what if I don’t live in California? How can I find a bakery for dogs near me?

A quick Google search for “dog bakery near me” will turn up some good results. There are amazing dog bakeries all over the country, and you don’t have to live near a major city to get your hands on canine-friendly pastries. You can also find dog bakeries that ship nationwide so your dog can enjoy fresh treats even if you don’t have a dog bakery near you.
