Meet 2 Tiny Dogs Abandoned During the Night—Now Searching for Forever Homes

When I first stepped into the kennel at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, California, I didn’t know what to expect. But when I saw those two little dogs, Leo and Lily, sitting quietly in the corner, I could immediately tell they were struggling. Their tiny bodies were trembling, and while Leo stood guard over his sister, both of their eyes showed a mix of fear and confusion.

I couldn’t help but feel for them.

Their Heartbreaking Journey

As I sat down with them, I began to hear bits and pieces of their story. Alexis told me that these two had been turned in at the night drop, a safe spot where people can anonymously leave dogs when they can’t take care of them.

I’ve seen a lot of tough situations like this over the years, but what really hit me was their condition. They were filthy, their skin had issues, and you could just see they hadn’t been cared for in a long time. I’m not sure if it was intentional neglect or just hardship, but either way, it’s heartbreaking. The shelter team said they’re around three years old, but based on their appearance, I would have guessed they were much older.

Their previous owner mentioned “hardship” in the notes, and sadly, that’s something we’re seeing more of these days. With rising costs and a tough economy, many people feel like they have no choice but to surrender their pets. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, but for Leo and Lily, it’s clear that being here is a fresh start—however bittersweet that may be.

Breaking Through the Fear

It wasn’t easy at first to get close to these two. Leo was particularly protective of Lily, making sure I didn’t come too close to his sister. But after a few minutes of sitting there quietly, offering them treats (which, let’s be honest, works like magic), they started to relax. It was slow progress, but progress nonetheless.

Leo, despite his nervousness, started to let his guard down. When I gave him some pets, he tensed up, but you could tell he was starting to enjoy it. And Lily—well, she’s a bit more adventurous. She found the treats in my pocket almost immediately and dove right in. They’re small—only about three or four pounds—but their personalities are starting to shine through, even with all they’ve been through.

Why We’re Here

Meet 2 Tiny Dogs Abandoned During the Night—Now Searching for Forever Homes

The truth is, shelters like this one are overwhelmed. There are so many animals needing help, and not enough people to give them the love and attention they deserve. That’s why I’m here. I want to show these dogs that they’re loved and give them the hope they need to get through this tough time. And I know a lot of you watching want to help too.

The staff is doing everything they can to keep them comfortable and healthy. They’ve already treated Leo and Lily for fleas, and we’re hoping the shelter groomer can come in tomorrow to give them a good bath. That’ll help a lot with their skin issues and overall well-being.

But what they really need is a forever home.

Let’s Find Them a Home

Here’s where you come in. I know many of you are already leaving hearts and comments for these two, and it means the world to me—and to them. We need to spread the word about Leo and Lily. These little guys have been through so much, and it’s time for them to find a home where they can heal and feel safe.

They’re here at Animal Friends of the Valleys, and while we don’t know if they’re bonded yet, we’ll keep you updated. It would be amazing if they could be adopted together, but the most important thing is getting them both into loving homes.

Let’s work together to help Leo and Lily find their people. Whether you’re local to California or far away, sharing their story helps. If you can come to the shelter and meet them in person, that’s even better.

So what do you think? Are you ready to make a difference in their lives?

Leo and Lily: A New Beginning

These two may be a bit scruffy, a little smelly (okay, a lot smelly), but they’re already starting to trust again. Their journey hasn’t been easy, but with the right people and a little love, they can start a new chapter—one that’s filled with belly rubs, soft beds, and, most importantly, a forever family.

Thank you to everyone who’s been watching, donating, and supporting these animals. Together, we can give dogs like Leo and Lily the happy endings they deserve.

And if you’ve got name suggestions, keep them coming. For now, I think Leo and Lily are starting to suit them just fine.
