After Loyal Mama Dog Was Shot 25+ Times She Still Took Care of Her 15 Puppies. Now They All Need Homes.

On March 6th, a stray dog named Priscilla was living under an abandoned house with her 15 puppies. After being taken to a shelter to be examined and cared for, it was determined that she had been shot with a BB gun more than 25 times, with many of the BBs still under her skin. The shelter is now hoping to find families to adopt her and her puppies.
Priscilla and Her Puppies Are Rescued
Perris is a desert community in Southern California, and Priscilla, a Pitbull mix, and her brood were found living on a property there. The property owner, who lives in Laguna Hills, had been working with Animal Services Commercial Enforcement Officer Adrian Enriquez on an unrelated matter and alerted him to the stray dog situation at his Perris property.
He explained that the Perris property was used by stray dogs as a place to shelter, and asked Officer Enriquez if he could get the dogs the help they needed. Although outside their jurisdiction, Mission Viejo Animal Services (MVAS) stepped up to rescue Priscilla and her babies. The team transported the Pitbull family to their shelter facilities. With 15 puppies requiring care, 6 were transferred to a nearby city’s shelter to ensure all received proper housing and resources.
The Dog and Her Pups Receive Needed Medical Care
At the MVAS shelter, the remaining nine puppies all received examinations, vaccines, and deworming treatments. When staff evaluated Priscilla, they estimated her age to be around 2 years old. Further veterinary exams and X-rays then revealed a heartbreaking discovery – the poor dog had been shot more than 25 times, with many BB pellets still lodged under her skin.
The MVAS team was utterly sickened by the cruel abuse Priscilla had endured, but committed to providing her with the care, safety and love she so desperately needed. “You get mixed emotions,” Enriquez said. “I’m upset and angry at the situation, but I’m also very happy that we can assist Priscilla and her puppies.” She has since undergone dental treatment, wound cleaning and care, and will also be spayed as part of her recovery process.
While there is no way to identify Priscilla’s shooter or determine when the horrific attack occurred, her rescuers are focused on her future healing. Despite her unimaginable past hardships, staff describe the resilient pitbull as “friendly and docile” as she learns to trust the people genuinely committed to her well-being.
These Dogs All Need Forever Homes
The good news is that all of Priscilla’s puppies are healthy, playful bundles of energy ready to find their forever families. Four of the pups are currently being cared for in temporary foster homes while sweet mama Priscilla and the other five littermates await adoption at the Mission Viejo Animal Services shelter.
For Priscilla especially, a future in a loving forever home would represent the ultimate triumph – a new life where her pain and neglect are replaced by companionship, joy, and the knowledge that she is finally safe. This forgiving, courageous mother has so much more love to give the right family.
